From the moment you enter, you are warmly greeted by a friendly beaming member of staff, with a cheeky wink and flirtatious smile, and sometimes the female staff do the same too.
As it's a themed bar, there is a heavy emphasis on all things Irish, i.e. they sell Guinness and the staff ask everything twice, to be sure to be sure. The Irish ambience is so authentic that I was offered to have my drive tarmaced by the duty manager.
They have a vast range of beers, wines and spirits and also a couple of guest ales, with alluring names like Vicars Trumpet or Nuns Nectar, some of the regulars drink these religiously.
The food on offer is of excellent quality, and every day there are special deals and offers on certain food items. Burger Day & Pie Day are fine, but when Grill Day is on Fryday it gets a little confusing.
There are live bands which perform every Friday night, generally rock/pop cover bands of decent quality, although some are slightly sarcastic. I asked the singer if they were going to play anything by the Doors but he replied that they were only performing onstage.
Saturday night is also music night, with some great DJs spinning the erm, MP3s with style. I went up to ask for a song from a sad looking DJ who said he was thinking of quitting, but when he heard my request he soon changed his tune.
There are multiple screens around the bar screening all day sports events, live football, boxing, hurling, curling and riverdancing. Although when I asked them to turn off the riverdancing, they Flatley refused.
There is a cashpoint and also two fruit machines if that's your thing. I used to enjoy it when they had a quiz machine though, I spent all night on it, it was good practice for when I had to go home and face the wife.
I couldn't recommend this bar highly enough, even if I inhaled helium for a week and wrote this review from the top of the Eiffel Tower instead of the confines of my padded cell in Rampton.

Read moreWent to The Earl of Derby pub on 19th Aug with a group of friends celebrating a birthday , one of the bar staff refused to serve my husband stating he was unsteady when walking in, my husband went to the side of the bar ( where the hatch is that allows access behind the bar ) to explain that he wasn’t drunk . The refusal to serve him was reiterated and he was accused of trying to get behind the bar ! . He came back to join the group . I went to the bar to explain that he has had a severe leg injury that has taken 2 years and several operations to enable him to walk . The member of staff would not listen to me made no eye contact just stared ahead , I was calm and courteous . We left . The attitude of the person I tried to speak to was rude and unnecessary , I wish we had chosen a different bar . We are both very upset by the experience ,...

Christ its a pub in the side street un Bury not the IVY. Many thanks for leaving a reply. I can understand a policy but I had been in the premises 10 minutes before I was told this, I have alopecia so I feel insecure, there should be a sign on the door stating no hat policy. Also before I was told this my friend had ordered and when he was returning to his seat he had left his menu on the bar, the girl said t him take that back to the table no please or anything, I was shocked what I...
