We visited the Hatch Brunch House today for a quick bite at lunchtime. I was impressed with the menu and the variety of different foods all under the "breakfast" banner as well as the lunch options available. I ordered the Rhubarb French Toast, and my husband and son each went for the All In Breakfast Bun. I also had an Americano and the guys went for soft drinks. The food arrived within 15 minutes (the drinks were with us in 5) and my dish was delicious. I loved every mouthful. The lads enjoyed their food too, however both made the observation that the portion could have been bigger for the price. I had to use the bathroom whilst there and was pleased to see that it was easily accessible for all bodies, very clean and there was also a selection of free to use nappies, wipes, period products and cotton pads. The only negative points I have are the following; the sound was unbearably loud and the stench of cigarette smoke wafting through the open doors. Firstly, I think the exposed concrete and stripped back industrial design of the place is super cool to look at, however it doesn't do anything for acoustics. I felt like I could hear every conversation in the space, as well as every clink of cutlery and crockery. Very overwhelming. Secondly, I understand that people have to smoke outside nowadays and that's grand, but I don't think they should be allowed to smoke right next to a wide open doorway to a cafe. It was disgusting - cigarette smoke is not a pleasant accompaniment to any meal - and the staff didn't ask the smokers to move away. Gross. So to summarise; the food was nice, the service quick, the price point medium, and the atmosphere/sound etc not so great. Definitely worth a visit if you're after a quick bite and if you have no...
Read moreWent in for a takeaway drink. Left after a painful 10 minutes with no drink and a refund. I ordered one of the new Christmas hot chocolates they advertised on the Instagram page to be told “oh I can’t do that…oh actually I can”. I paid the £3.95 and stood waiting and the 2 staff started looking at pictures on their phone working out what the drink looked like. I was then told by the girl making the drink that they’d ran out of cream and was asked “do you really want cream?” I said at £3.95 I think so haha. When the cream was eventually made, she tested it and it was runny. She then put the runny cream onto the top of the drink, which was already way too full to fit cream and a lid on top. The cream came out all runny and flat and lots of liquid ran down the side of the cup. At this point I said I think I will just leave it have a refund instead please. I was told the refund will go back automatically and the girl making the drink apologised. The whole thing was embarrassing to watch, especially having worked as a barista myself, all I wanted was a hot chocolate...
Read moreMy daughter and I went for brunch here, or at least tried to. The food is normally good and the atmosphere is modern and fresh.
However, when we visited just now we had to wait a long time for food compared to other customers. I went up to enquire about our order, a few minutes later a waitress came over to let us know it would be 5 minutes. 10 minutes later I went to ask for a refund on the food as it had been a long time.
I get it though the place is busy, mistakes happen, I've worked in the food industry i get it.
Unfortunately the manger just didn't care at all. No inquiry as to why we wanted the refund, no apology, no offer to take the drinks off or offer a free cake/ bun to say sorry. No real apology at all or acknowledgement that mistakes were made.
Service matters and people notice it. I think the owners of this place are obviously very passionate and I am hopeful solid training is offered on how to turn issues and refunds into opportunities to display great service and...
