We went as a group for dinner, as many of the reviewers so far had liked it. Overall, our visit was near to the worst case experience.
First, the music was extremely loud and made it impossible to talk to anyone sitting more than a seat away. That was unsatisfying, but then our food arrived - I had the burger, which turned out to be the quintessential bad pub burger: soggy bun (not even toasted), a dry and already cool (!?!) patty and for some reason, aniseed in the sauce (never saw that before, never want to see that again). Others in our group were similarly underwhelmed, the food being at best average.
Finally, service was downright hostile. Two people had ordered the curry, which was advertised as having chickpeas, squash and rice noodles, and arrived without a trace of any of these. That can happen in a busy kitchen and ingredients are sometimes missing on a day. However, when asked about it, our waitress showed a firm grasp of alternative facts and explained that all of these things were clearly present, we just couldn't see them. When we gave up and wanted to close the discussion with "whatever, this is fine", she answered with the most bratty "clearly, it's not fine!" I've ever heard and refused to leave this alone.
Overall, this pub may be acceptable if you just want a drink outside; but for dinner, you're better served with a sandwich from Sainsbury's on the other side of the plaza. Its self-checkout tills are a clear improvement over the service in the old...
Read moreStaff were extremely rude, patronising and condescending, would not accept a valid Age Card ID, and somewhat enjoyed the fact that he couldn’t serve us. Not even a single “sorry” - it was such an uncomfortable and rude encounter. Then when another person presented a drivers license ID, we felt as though he embarrassed her by over dramatically checking and inspecting the ID. Also weren’t even told how much our purchases would cost, just had the card machine shoved in our faces. This was such an unwelcoming first experience, I’m really embarrassed for the bar staff that served us (two men, one with man bun, one wearing hat). I work in hospitality myself and never would I dream of speaking to customers in the arrogant and rude way the bar staff did. It seems as though these bar staff are on a huge power trip with the position they are given, and it felt very misogynistic and personal seeing as no other customers seem to have had any issues apart from us girls.
Additionally, we moved to sit outside of the Ibis (as we felt more welcomed there) and a customer we had seen at OTO walked past, and threw up! So tell me why they have served a customer who is extremely intoxicated, yet we get treated disgustingly even though we are all of age and...
Read moreReally disappointed in this place for dinner. It was kind of a disaster from start to finish - very annoying online booking process that requires them to email you back after you've submitted a request. They didn't by the following day, so I phoned to confirm, which they did do, and then I finally got an email confirmation another day later.
The drinks were nice, but the music was so loud that you could barely hear the person sitting right in front of you (probably a nice atmosphere for after work drinks, but not for dinner). Most of the food was okay, but nothing special, but several ingredients listed on the menu were left out of the laksa, and when we asked about it, our server first went to check, but then another server came out and lectured us on how they were in there - we just couldn't see them!
This is a fairly small place, and the decor is really nice, but I think they're trying to do too many things. I can see that it might be nice to grab a drink here before your train, but wouldn't recommend it for dinner, especially if you have more than 2 people since you won't be able...
