Read moreThis place does a mean brisket lasagna! The tomato sauce was rich and flavourful, and most importantly, not too tart - acidity is the downfall of far too many otherwise delicious lasagnas. This one was just right. And the white sauce perfectly balanced out the more savory, heavy oomph of the tomato sauce, lending the dish a gentle creaminess and rounding out the flavour of each bite.
But can we just talk about the brisket. Tender, soft enough that it just separates at the teeth, with a slight char on the outside, which gives it character. Contrast that with your typical lasagna with mince, which usually ends up with the flavour and consistency of mushy dog food. Brisket was a smart choice because it packs a meaty punch while retaining the texture of the meat and the feeling of having something “real” to chow down on.
Every bite felt like a thoughtfully composed symphony, with the tomato sauce providing the flavour base, the white sauce bringing balance, the pasta and the brisket bringing texture and meatiness that brings the whole dish together.
Lasagna is so commonplace and yet so hard to do well. This place is one of the very few that does...
Read moreThe pub itself is a lovely place, welcoming and nice decor. The food on the other hand was really sub-par. To start, everything I tried to order from the menu was not available. What I did end up ordering, Massaman Cury, had no chicken in it which it clearly stated on the menu. Nothing was mentioned by the staff to say that it would not come with chicken. Two of us ordered it so it wasn’t a mistake on one, neither came with chicken. The rice that came with the curry was soggy and undercooked. All the other food we ordered, wings, pizza and nachos were all not good, no flavour, too salty and the nachos had no pulled pork in it which again it stated on the menu. We were very disappointed with all of our food and will probably not come back for a meal, maybe for a pint but that’s about it. Shame because as mentioned it is a lovely place but sadly can’t recommend the...
