Disappointing. Myself and my partner saw this cute pub, was on a time constraint and decided to grab a bite to eat after seeing the menu which appeard appealing. Sat down, ordered drinks, waitress was lovely and said would be back with drinks and to take food order...came back but rushed off. Another waitress informed us the kitchen was closed for 30mins. We said that’s not what your colleague had mentioned and explained we would never had ordered the drinks had we of known and could of gone elsewhere. My partner was not pleased and nicely stated his opinion of not being happy with the service. The kitchen all of a sudden opened again (even though food was still coming out this whole time)! He paid for the bill at the bar. Then they had the audacity to come over with a bill saying we hadn’t paid for our drinks. We said he paid in full at the bar and still the waitress said ‘are you sure because it’s stating on our till you havent’. My partner had to get up the payment on his phone (he wasn’t given a receipt in first place) as proof. Only then we got an apology. Fair enough there are such things as technical and human error but come on, have some better communication and organisation skills...
Read moreI was looking for a place to have dinner in the UK and thought—well, I can’t leave without going to a pub. What really caught my attention here was the sign saying the place has been open since the 1700s. I thought: if it’s been around that long, they must be doing something right!
One thing I really like in the UK is that menus list the calories. Even if it feels a bit dramatic sometimes, it’s actually very helpful—and honestly, I think it should be like that everywhere. It makes the decision easier (or guiltier, depending on the day!).
Since I’ve tried fish & chips plenty of times (around the UK) and never really liked it, I went for something new: a fish pie. My first ever. It was made with mashed potatoes and cheese instead of a pastry crust, which I wasn’t expecting—I missed the crust, but still, the flavor was really nice. Lots of shrimp, tasty veggies, and overall a very comforting dish.
I had a small beer, which together with the pie made for a good, fair-priced dinner. The service was fast, although the pub wasn’t packed, so maybe that helped. Also, they have a ton of beers on tap—didn’t count them, but easily...
Read moreA welcoming place for a pint after a long walk in Cambridge. Sadly the food isn’t all that, we waited an age for our food to arrive and when it did after a 50 min wait i wished i listened to my head and grabbed a meal deal from the nearest ‘every little helps’ branded supermarket. I ordered a chefs platter, I’m sorry chef but if that’s a platter I’m a spaceman ! What turned up was 1/2 a chioritzo sliced, 6 soggy green peppers, some wilted leaves, a couple of breadcrumbed round things that didn’t exactly awaken the taste buds and what can only be described as 2 star shaped oven cooked ( from frozen and just out of a bag ) chicken things….i say chicken things as they tasted a bit like chicken but I couldn’t be sure and they looked awful. The sort of food I’d expect to see a 5 year old birthday party. This must be why we had waited 50 mins for our food to arrive as I guess they sent a runner to a nearby shop to purchase said frozen chicken things.
Overall a nice pub but overpriced bland food, maybe introduce sandwiches to your...
