On an overcast day, I drove 90 minutes to visit this beautiful town. After finding a parking spot near the town center, I walked about 10 minutes to reach this café. With the intention of exploring local coffee shops and cuisines wherever I go, I stepped inside.
The entrance led to a small and cozy front area. Seeing the staff busy at work, I hesitated to interrupt, but I was soon greeted by a friendly staff member. I mentioned I’d like to dine in, and was directed upstairs.
On the way, I noticed some staff just starting their lunch — it made me feel a bit sorry for them. Clearly, it had been a busy day for the café. I arrived around 2 p.m., and though only about half the seats were occupied by then, the uncleared tables suggested the place had just seen a rush. It felt like the café had just finished a "battle" of lunchtime service.
Shortly after sitting down, a staff member took my order, and my coffee and meal arrived quickly.
The chocolate coffee was aromatic, slightly bitter without being astringent. After stirring in the chocolate at the bottom, it became sweet but not overly so — the chocolate flavor remained rich, and the taste of coffee still shone through. I was very satisfied with both the taste and presentation of the food (though I’m not a professional photographer or food critic!).
The space isn’t large, but it’s very comfortable to sit in. The atmosphere is great, with relaxing music playing in the background.
I stayed for almost 40 minutes while writing this review, and never once felt cramped or uncomfortable. It’s definitely a café-restaurant where one can unwind and relax.
Conclusion: Excellent. Everything was great, and the staff were lovely (and good-looking too🤣). If I have the chance, I’ll definitely come again.

Read moreTheir cherry pie is the best dessert I have ever had in my entire life and I am not exaggerating that. I passed by this cafe and spotted the cake & pie display through their window. It looked so good that I turned right around and went in and ordered a cappuccino (they did not judge me for ordering one at 4pm, very kind of them) and the glorious cherry lattice pie. I can taste it even now months later as I write this review. I see it in my dreams. It was unlike the syrupy, overly sweet pies that tend to be the norm in America. It was tart and dense and the crust was rich and buttery and soft. It was so beautiful it looked like one of the pies you would see sitting on a windowsill in a children’s book. I have never written a love letter to a pie before but I am writing one now because that is what this pie inspired in me. After that life-changing slice I got a second one to go, and the box made the journey to the evening church service at the cathedral and on to the train station and all the way back to London as I could not bear the thought of not having a slice of this pie to look forward to, as I sadly must do now. I live in the US so the only solution is to make it myself. I have been looking for a recipe for months but haven’t yet found one that comes close. If you are luckier than me and are in Canterbury or will be in Canterbury soon you should do yourself a...
Read moreIn my quest to find the world's best Eggs Benedict, I was directed to this charming café which nestles inconspicuously amongst the pubs and gift shops in Butchery Lane. I was not disappointed -- there are four Benedicts on offer, being standard (w/choice of ham or bacon), Florentine (vegetarian), Royale (smoked salmon), and 'B.A.B. Benedict" which is what I ordered. This comes, obviously, with two B's and an A, and these are Bacon, Brie, and Avocado.
I don't know whether this is an invention of Lazix or has been in the public domain for ever and I've just failed to notice it anywhere else, but it is nothing short of spectacular. An absolute flavour-fest, and beautifully presented to boot. Perfectly poached eggs, creamy and delicious Hollandaise, succulent bacon and gorgeous, smooth brie.
There are two potential rivals to Lazix for Canterbury's Eggs Benedict crown and they are Cosy Club and the Goods Shed, both of whose offerings are delicious. As for which is best, I intend to sample each a few more times before I decide.
The coffee is excellent too.
