It was okay.

When we arrived on a Saturday night we had to wait outside the restaurant as the entrance had three couples in front of us waiting to be seated. After 10 minutes or so we were seated against a wall in the main corridor. This may not suit most people but it suited us as we like to people watch.

We were warned on arrival that they had a delay due to a gas problem. I've taken that into account.

Our reservation was 2030. We arrived at 2025, got in at 2035. It was 2100 before we gave a drinks order and 2115 when we gave a food order. The wine was pretty low in quality.

No problem with a delay on food but that doesn't affect drinks.

We ordered 3 dips and bread. It was sent back as the wrong dips arrived and this was sorted promptly.

The dips tasted fantastic especially with the two types of bread. I thought the portions were small for two people bearing in mind bread is cheap and therefore proportionately expensive. Very nice tasting though and well presented.

Main course was moussaka. Beautifully presented and tasted nice. Not wholly hot but forgivable due to the gas issues. The little side salad that came with it was incredible. An awesome dressing and again, beautifully presented.

When we finished it was 2230 which is too long for 2 courses so we elected to leave at that point.

It is a nice restaurant and the food is nice. I think the pricing is ambitious. The service was slow.

I'd maybe return on a weeknight to see how it compares but...

The food at Alexandros was absolutely amazing — packed with flavor, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. The atmosphere was just as impressive: warm, inviting, and reflective of the 25 years this restaurant has spent earning its place in the community.

Most of the staff were excellent — professional, friendly, and clearly going above and beyond to deliver great service. Unfortunately, their efforts were undermined by one particular staff member.

After acknowledging our request for the dessert menu, he never returned. We eventually had to ask another server, who helped us promptly and professionally. What really concerned us, though, was that this same staff member appeared more focused on trying to put his hands around the waist of a young waitress, rather than doing his job. She did not acknowledge the behavior, remained focused on her work, and looked visibly uncomfortable — yet continued to carry out her duties professionally.

This kind of behavior felt highly inappropriate and bordered on harassment. It was uncomfortable to witness as guests, and it’s disappointing to see such conduct in what should be a professional environment.

We still left a tip for the rest of the hardworking staff, who truly deserved it. But it’s a real shame that one individual’s actions took away from what could have been a flawless experience. Management needs to be aware and take this seriously — both staff and customers...

Number one in Carlisle for a reason!

Covid Measures The whole place was covid secure. The staff were all wearing face masks and regularly sanitising their hands/changing gloves. Everything was sprayed with anti bac spray before being presented to the customer. Screens felt like they were a natural part of the decor.

Service Amazing service all evening from all the staff. Very clear that they are trained to ensure the customer comes first and no request is too much. Some genuine thinking occurring when desserts are cut into the correct number for sharing without being asked for. Very clear they act with a focus on pleasing.

Food Everything which we had was authentic, flavoursome and perfectly cooked. Couldn't ask for a better experience. I would personally stay clear of the cod roe dip but only because it actually tastes like it should and I don't like it. The chicken in white wine sauce was simply out of the world and the lamb was pink but not bloody, compliments to the chef and team.

Overall It is very obvious why this place is so highly rated. I would return tomorrow with pleasure and cannot...

What an experience today at Alexandros! From the moment we stepped in, it felt like we were transported to Greece on a summer holiday. The ambiance and decor were so authentically Greek that we almost forgot we were still in England. A few times, we were pleasantly surprised when the waiters spoke in a proper Northern England accent, reminding us with a chuckle that we weren’t actually in Greece. It added a charming, unexpected twist to our evening. The food was exceptional—dare I say, even better than what we’ve had in Greece! Each dish was bursting with flavor, clearly made with fresh ingredients and a lot of love. The ambiance, the attentive waiters, and the overall atmosphere were just perfect. We were recommended by our friend Luca, whose cousin owns the restaurant, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the tip. This was an incredible experience from start to finish. Thank you, Alexandros, for a memorable evening!
