I'll start the review with my own failings first ...I went on a Saturday night at around 6 o'clock just expecting to be sat down now obviously it was busy and there was no where to sit.. which even though you know it's your fault for not booking you still get annoyed but that isn't the reason for the review its how the customer service reflects the busy nature so every time a table became free we went to sit down to be roughly told it's reserved no time just a plate saying reserved no apologies no recommendation of when and if a table will be free just basically get off the table your in my way is unfortunately how it came across. The place was nice but unjustifiably pretentious which might I add is rarely down to the bar but the customers who after paying 7 pound for a cocktail adopt the airs and graces of Prince Charles. When being from and living in Manchester centre whether I agree or not £7 for a cocktail is cheap so honestly there's no need for the dirty looks. Anyways it is what it so we left and went to eaten by monsters where you guessed it all the tables were booked however one of the staff saw us looking and found us a table where there was still half an hour before they arrived..then stating that once we are moved she will find us somewhere else and so on we apologised for not booking and for being burden to which she replied it's not a problem ..funnily enough there was no stares no abrupt replies and no plates with just 'RESERVED on... anyway.. cocktails ... the cocktails were superb and the bar staff friendly and open...I'd just add that if your lucky enough to have a venue that is busy enough to have customers left standing be nice to them as the money in my pocket is no different to Margaret who phoned and booked a table...

We were recommended 'The Last Zebra' by some employees at the nearby local Hotel Chocolat as we were on holiday and wanted some good, local, independent food. I'm pleased to say that we found this here.

First impressions is of a very stylish restaurant with the centre piece being the natural light coming from the skylight which made the venue so bright and welcoming. The music selection added to the atmosphere which just made it feel like a good place to eat.

The ordering process was a tad confusing. The menu says order drinks from the app but then whilst doing that, an employee also came over to take a drinks order. Ordering and service was at a good pace and we could see into the kitchen and see how clean it was.

I ordered the Confit duck which was delicious. The Hoisin gravy needs to be bottled and sold as it was amazing. The pickled onion rings made so much sense and no idea why no where else has thought of this! My partner ordered the Cumbrian burger which was also very delicious.

During our meal, our server swapped to another employee 'Emily' who was fantastic! Emily provided friendly professional customer service and a really good recommendation for dessert of the Vanilla and Blueberry Crème Brulee which rounded off our meal perfectly.

Overall, a great experience and a special thank you to Emily for the excellent service and...

Popped in looking for something to eat. Asked if we could have a table (plenty available and never got full) she looked at her screen and said that one over there will have to do. Sat down and we waited apx 5 mins. When the server came over with menus she said kitchen closes in 5 you'll have to hurry up. Really would have preferred her to say, really can't be bothered to serve you, just go elsewhere, as that was the attitude we were given. Ordered quickly as instructed, steak burgers and chicken gyros. Waited apx 10 minutes for the drinks and 15 for the food. For the price paid the food was exceptionally disappointing. Chips were overcooked and cheap run of the mill fries. In fact, McDonald's fries and burgers are tastier. Never thought I'd say that. Whilst eating the server, continually watched us literally waiting to swipe the plates from under our noses as soon as we put the cutlery down. My husband even commented on this and he only had a reflection in the glass. Plenty of other people were still in the area just finishing their meals so it wasn't like we were the last people in the place. The server literally looked like she was chewing a wasp throughout the whole time which probably took 35 minutes max as we felt so unwelcome we just wanted to leave. It looks popular with the locals but We definitely...

Heading back South from Scotland, a trio of us decided after a weekend of eating junk at a bike rally, service station grub just wasn't going to cut it... so we took a slight detour into Carlise. Having never visited Carlisle before, we had no idea where to go but spotted this place because I liked the name 😂 Stopped to look at the menu outside and another guest who'd just arrived told us "the food is great, if you need convincing" We were sold and she WAS NOT WRONG! The menu was varied and quirky and I basically wanted everything! I went for the Salt and Chilli Confit Duck and the Vietnamese Belly pork. Both dishes were absolutely to die for! (Our friend was also very impressed with his steak, which was cooked to perfection) I wouldn't pop this in the cheap eats category but i can definitely say you get what you pay for, it's absolutely worth it! (Even saying that, it's really not badly priced!) The staff were friendly, welcoming, attentive, and efficient. The restaurant itself was clean and trendy, they had a huge selection of alcoholic drinks. Lovely setting and atmosphere, would be lovely for a treat, although we didn't feel out of place or looked down on in all our biker gear! Highly recommend giving it a go. I would 100%return when coming back to Carlisle (Or passing through from Scotland again!)

What a find. Covering a bucket list item to travel the Settle-Carlisle Railway, we needed to find a lunch place in Carlisle. We just missed arriving in time for David's Place, but they are such nice people they make recommendations. Hence we ended up at The Last Zebra. It's a funky casual bar and restaurant, so such appetizers hit the menu as Stone Baked Brie with bacon bits, a strip of piquant caramel onion marmalade laid down the middle, all of which you scoop up with toasted slices of country sourdough bread. Definately try the main course "Sea Bass Hash" which is pan seared sea bass served on a hash of crispy potatoes, pancetta, spinach, poached egg, chimichurri & caper and dill sauce, It seemed to come from a chef who had left a big-city, big-time hotel for the bucolic beauty of Cumbria, A waiter told me the chef's last gig was at a local pub! Go figure. It was deliciously creative, either way. Recommended.
