Olivia's at Queen’s Park — Restaurant in Charnwood

Ordered 2 baguettes, 2 soft drinks and a kids lunch box, cost £29!! We were told at the till that they didn’t have the boxes for the lunch boxes but that it would come on a plate instead and that it was a 20 minute wait for the food to arrive, which I said was no problem. After waiting for 30 minutes the young waitress (who was very friendly) told us that she could only make one of the baguettes we had ordered due to lack of ingredients, I said it was fine and ordered a different sandwich instead. 10 minutes later she returned to tell us that it wasn’t the ingredients that were lacking but that they didn’t have the baguettes. I then said that’s fine, we’ll have them on the bread instead. Then, after 40 minutes of waiting for a very patient child we finally received the kids lunch box, inside a paper box was a sandwich with very thick bread and one slice of cheap very thin ham. 1 slice! This “lunch box” cost £6,50! The box should have come with a kids colouring sheet, this was also absent. After waiting now 45+ minutes for the adults food I went inside to ask how much longer we’d have to wait. After 50 minutes we got our food which wasn’t what I’d originally ordered, it was the second option but at this point I couldn’t wait any longer so stuck with what we had. The food wasn’t bad, absolutely NOT worth the £9 each they charge for a sandwich though. The tables around us seemed to be complaining about getting the wrong orders, the tables were full of dirty plates & cups and we saw many tables clearing their own table before sitting down. I have visited once before and liked the location of the cafe. However, this time I was very disappointed. I understand a member of the team was off, however, I feel some training is needed by management on how the staff dealt with this. Food service had been stopped therefore one team member should not have had the impact it did. Perhaps management did not account for the increased numbers? No explanation was given when I ordered as to how long it would take for the coffee to arrive. When the delay on the coffee was raised, the attitude was it will come when it’s ready. There was barely any food items to choose from. What I chose was then stale. I had to request for the table to be wiped, which resulted in half the table being wiped not the full table which seemed obvious to me. When the coffee arrived there was no apology for the lengthy delay. These are all management training issues. The prices do not reflect the service. It really is a shame because the location is beautiful but sadly this has put me off...

Poor service. No acknowledgement whilst standing at the counter waiting. Uncleared tables, and even when our table was finally cleared it wasn't wiped down, so food and mess left all over it. Floor filthy, not swept regularly. Drinks brought over with no spoons to stir in sugar. Asked for a spoon and advised it was the last one! Perhaps I should have used my finger? Over-priced drinks based on the size, 2 coffees £8.10 (small cups).
