Artisan Roast Leith Walk — Restaurant in City of Edinburgh

Seriously good coffee – arguably some of the best in Edinburgh, if not the UK – but sadly, it’s let down by the attitude and lack of basic service from the front-of-house staff.

Since this place opened, I’ve walked out on three separate occasions after being completely ignored by the baristas. Today, I was the only person waiting, with two staff members behind the counter, and not one of them could manage eye contact, a simple “hello”, or even an “I’ll be with you in just a moment”. Instead, they carried on their conversation, seemingly oblivious to the fundamentals of customer service, while I stood there like a spare part.

The coffee may be exceptional, but when the overall experience consistently feels cold and unwelcoming, it simply isn’t worth it.

When it comes to coffee, Artisan Roast is undoubtedly one of the best in Edinburgh! They know what they are doing and every coffee we have had from them (from any of their branches) was always delicious. They make a proper chai late as well - they don't use syrups or powder but they brew the chai, which I was excited to see! I'm giving 4 stars only for upcharching for alternative mylks. With prices already on the more expensive end (yes I get it, it's a specialty coffee place, but still), having at least one kind that they wouldn't upcharge for would be really nice to see as it's more and more common at more and more...

Staff were lovely and i liked the industrial, minimalist decor but the coffee was awful. so bad, i’m compelled to review as i feel someone needs to raise the white flag when coffee is that bad. again, want to underscore the service was great but i had, by a country mile, the worst black americano i’ve had in a long, long time. coffee was bitter and sour with a stinging aftertaste. i’m ashamed to say i said nothing at the time as staff were busy but someone should be tasting daily…. coffee should never be THAT bad! i don’t expect great coffee every time but this was terrible coffee, labelled and branded as...
