Don’t waste your money or you might break a tooth! We ordered a take away from Desi Pakwan on 19/02/22. It took 2 hours to arrive (despite clunky website stating 65 min delivery time). I called just before it arrived to check its status and was advised that it was sitting ready and just had to be collected. I was assured it would arrive hot. It didn’t. That’s fine, we are used to that with takeaways. Unfortunately, this disappointment was a sign of things to come. The pilau rice was found to have 2 large, solid stone seeds in it, which was a choking hazard and almost left me with a broken a tooth. I’ve had pilau rice many times and encountered (and accidentally chewed) a cardamom pod or 2 in my time. I’ve never found a solid stone seed served in it and neither has anyone I know (see pic). Frankly, concerning and surprising they would let this get served. Sadly, this isn’t where it ended. We ordered 2 mains, one Lamb Tikka Garlic Masaledar which was tasty and fresh (earning one star) and the popadoms and spiced onions were ok (then again, how can you mess them up). Unfortunately, we also ordered a chicken korma which had a thin, tasteless sauce. I ended up eating the popadoms and rice with the sauce from the masaledar and binned the korma. When I called to complain and to highlight the dangerous seeds in the rice, I was told “that’s what pilau rice is madam” and that they were very busy. Unfortunately, we paid cash so will never see our money again. Suffice to say, neither will...

We went for my birthday meal tonight after hearing so many good reviews on the food however we were warned the service was not that great. We got to the resturant for 8.45pm, we were greated by a very pleasant young boy called Hamid, he took us to our table and told us someone will come shortly to take our order. We waited for a good 20 mins, no one came, we had to ask 2 different waiters to take our order, we waited nearly 1hr 40 mins for our food. Some people sitting there had been waiting longer than 2 hrs for their food. The waiters were so stressed and under pressure as people were getting angry and frustrated, a table of 8 walked out after waiting for 2 hrs. Eventually our food arrived, at 10.30. I cant fault the food, it was very delicious , however as we were siting their observing everything around us, the feedback we would give u is the waiters did the best they can, it wasnt their fault if the kitchen staff could not get the food out on time. As i was leaving i could see one waitress breakdown in tears. I could see she tried her best. When i asked to speak to a manager to give my feedback, i was told the manager was too busy to see me, which was disappointing as she was in the next room talking to a waiter. I blame management for the shocking service not the poor staff who dont get paid enuf to deal with the abuse from customers. Not sure if we will go back. Especially where management treat their...

Worst Experience so far went to this place on 16 or 17-02-2025. we didn’t have any booking just walked in they were busy and young boy said could be 15 to 20 minutes wait. I said that’s ok we stood outside working out our order this must have been about 15 to 20 minutes.

Went back in and said can we give you our order in advance. Then the owner came through and without saying hello or anything he said it will be another 20 or 30 minutes I said that’s ok no problem we can wait in our car.

At same time he said cash only I said I didn’t bring any card he said Well its cash only. With a wright attitude on him like he was doing me some sort of favour. he hade done this before but i ignored it .every business has cards machines these days , you place that shutdown hade card machine .reason you don't want it here, that's how you doge your tax .

No wonder your place in Moat place shut down with you attitude that’s what you deserve. You were charging people service chargers there. Your food use to take 1 hour to come out of your kitchen, all this when you hade only 1 or 2 tables.

Stay clear from this place overhyped food and service next to nun and owner who thinks he is some kind of king , i spent my £120 in Kababish instead where they are much welcoming...

My two friends and I have just been for a meal this evening at Desi Pakwan on Leith Walk. The meal itself was,i have to say was very tasty, good portions, freshly cooked to order and piping hot. We had Kofta Kebabi Handi,Keema Champ and Chicken Malai Tikka, with Achari nan,Plain nan and Basmati rice. My only criticism is,that all the food looked the same, leading me to think, it had all come from the one pot of sauce which was a pity.I would have expected better, considering you are paying premium prices, each dish should have its own identity and characteristics which are highlighted on the menu,it was not the case. They do not have a licence, so we took a few cold beers to drink, with no corkage charge and also be aware that's its cash only.

We went for their pori cholay weekend breakfast. 8£ per person. It opens around 1030am on the weekend. Space is limited so come early. No parking. The food was ok. Pori is made from flour rather than high grade (maida). Cholay were ok. Allo (potato) tarkari (curry) was very different with onion. So a complete turn off. Halwa was disappointing. I thi k it was suji but didn’t feel the typical halwa that one is used too. The haleem was ok. Payyie was just oil so didn’t even try. Overall, id miss this place. Esp given that it’s at leith and parking / space is a mess. But if you are really dying for pori then give it a try. May return for the karahii, although unlikely given that they put onions in their karahi as well!!
