I visited Cafe Kawaii on its opening day and in my experience that tends to be the worst for a business and customers. If so, it bodes well for the petite cafe as they were switched on, friendly and efficient.
"Cafe" is a slightly misleading description as Kawaii is essentially a takeaway (sushi and bubble tea) with some merch to buy.
The merch lives up to the name! "Kawaii" is cute and here you can buy cute plushies in the Japanese style. Fat cats with content smiles or with bat wings.
I had a very competitively priced bubble tea. You can have yours with a milk base but I went with grape flavour and then enhanced with strawberry flavoured popping boba. Summer in a cup. It was delicious and the cup had cat ears. There's a trend here.
Delightfully, Cafe Kawaii opens after work and I can see people getting home to flats on London Road becoming regulars. The cafe already has a loyalty card.
December 24 - Drink list expanded for the better.
July 25 - Reasonably priced Labubu art toys...
Read moremy new fav bubble tea joint! I’ve tried every bubble tea shop in Edinburgh and this is the best. I’ve had lovely teas elsewhere, but this and Jan’s Bubbles in Morningside are lovely family run little businesses. there was a gap in the market for a bubble tea shop in this area and i’m glad they filled it!
there was a 9 or 10 year old girl behind the counter taking orders for the lady making the drinks and she was hilarious. so passionate about the teas and a clear kawaii fan!! I laughed half the time I was in there because she was so entertaining- future movie star I’m guessing!!
tea was lovely, has cute ears on the cup, doesn’t have a sealed plastic lid you have to pierce (just a cover with a small hole) which is nice as I always get the tea all over me trying to pierce the film.
loyalty card, sushi and plushies...
Read moreBig bubble Tea consumers and was excited about this place opening. It has far exceeded expectation!
Lost count of the times I have been or my man has surprised me with a tea from here.
There are a few decent chains in Edinburgh but what makes this above and beyond is the passion of the owner and it shows! Not just in how the teas taste (which I have 3 cards almost full now as proof! But in all the thought that has gone into to make an independent dream stand out-her cups with the adorable ears, the stickers and willingness to adapt drinks.
Oh, and the strawberry and apricot conserves are home made!
Wasn’t a fan of the fizzy matcha.
I’m personally not a cuddly toy person but they seem good quality & the canvas shoppers are cute. Well done on...
