Had dinner at Ranga with friends tonight, and it was easily one of the best Indian meals I’ve had in Edinburgh. The restaurant specialises in South Indian food, but also serves North Indian favourites and desi Chinese. We ordered aloo and cheese parathas, aubergine curry, and chicken 65. The parathas were big, hearty, and filling, while the curry had that authentic, home-cooked taste that reminded us of India. The real surprise was the Mangalorean banana buns. Soft, slightly sweet, and paired with freshly made coconut chutney. The coconut chutney was nothing like the store-bought versions most places serve: So good! I’ve eaten at all the popular Indian restaurants in Edinburgh, but Ranga stands out. The food is top-notch and incredibly affordable, which makes it even better.
A huge shoutout to Sanjay, the owner, whose passion for good food and great service was clear from the moment we walked in. And the chef deserves all the Praise. Already planning my next visit for dosas and desi Chinese, which looked and smelled amazing at...
Read moreImagine this: 6 drinks deep, searching for a burrito or gyro of some sort. You look up “food” in google maps & you see a 5 star Indian location within 2 minutes of you. No doubt, you must go. Asked them for recommendations which they listed of in beautiful order & then you say “ do you have anything like a burrito?”, girly says “do you want it spicy?”, the only answer: yes. Within the 7 minutes she whips out the longest “burrito” you have ever seen JUST in time for you to run & catch the bus home. Once home you unwrap this scroll of “pepper chicken in nann” & indulge. All I can say is THANK YOU. Glorious. Fantastic. Saddened that I am merely a visitor of this beautiful nation & establishment & probably will never be back, but happy I got to experience the amazing-ness. This nann-burrito brought one of my favorite sayings to mind: do not cry because it is over, smile because...
Read moreReally good food! we tried quite a few items on the menu. All their chats, indo-chinese, biryani, gajar ka halwa.. must try their indo-chinese food, best i’ve had in the UK, although every dish was very good we thoroughly enjoyed then all. Our picky kids had eaten all of their indo-chinese clean.
Its a small cozy place, perhaps still work in progress interms of the asthetics/decors. Honestly din’t feel awkward due really good hospitality, the gentleman running the show up front had a warm smile and took all the feedback positively from their customers.
Ranga’s gave us really good Indian street food at a very affordable price. It was worth the drive from Glasgow just to have dinner at Ranga’s. I wish the team all the best and we look forward to visiting the...
