Ah, il sapore di casa! | ah the taste of home! Maria's kitchen is a joy for the heart, not strictly but especially if you're Italian or have been in Italy! Ps: i was enjoying the food so much I didn't take even one picture 😋
I'm Italian and I regularly miss the taste of homemade food, wholesome and awesome meals filled with love and great ingredients. Maria's kitchen has the loveliest people behind their doors, the owner is going to make you feel like you're being teleported in Italy, talking with a dear friend. The food is spectacular, I can't describe how difficult it is to find the same quality elsewhere. Their cannoli are amongst the very best in town (or UK, sue me if it's not true) and the rest of their selection is to die for. I had a pizzetta (small pizza), a cannolo and Bombolone al pistacchio; I might say about the last one, it even topped the ones I had in Italy. I've had their arancini many years ago before leaving the city, and they are so worth it! I'm definitely waiting for them to be open again on Tuesday and grab them as soon as they're made.
Thank you for being a...
Read moreI was looking for quite a specific celebratory dessert for my girlfriend's 30th birthday party. After trying a couple of other places that didn't understand what I was looking for or said they could not cater for it (I wanted a huge tiramisu nicely decorated in the fashion of a cake), I found Maria's Kitchen/Maria's Kakes and spoke to Rocco who was really helpful. He understood clearly what I was looking for and was happy to make it and customise it accordingly. The price was very reasonable and about what I had hoped to pay.
I was delighted with how the tiramisu turned out and how nicely decorated it was. Everyone at the party loved it and was asking where it came from. Rocco and the staff in general seem very passionate about what they do, communicate really clearly and it felt like being back in Italy (not long after returning from a holiday in Sicily!). A huge thank you to Rocco again for understanding what I was looking for and being so helpful, and we will definitely be back there to try some of the other food. I would highly...
Read moreThe coffee was a disaster. The desserts were not fresh, or just not delicious. I suspect the high ratings were given by tourists. How could residents of Edinburgh think their desserts are good? There are so many cafes on Leith Street nearby with better desserts than this place. This is not the standard a boutique dessert shop should have. The weather was great today, and I wanted to try this new Italian cafe that has outdoor seating(also because my favorite one closed today)but it ruined my afternoon. The first sip of coffee gave me a faint taste of syrup instead of any of the typical flavors like sour, sweet, or bitter. I ordered the type of dessert with a donut base and some cream on top. I took one bite and threw it away. Now, there's still a strange aftertaste lingering in my mouth. ………….truly...
