My wife and I went here for breakfast with friends. It’s a nice cafe with a very relaxed vibe. Service was fine throughout. We both got the full Scottish breakfast which was pretty good. Everything was cooked well and tasted nice. The beans are separated which is something my wife is happy about. Eggs were ok but I prefer them more scrambled. Sausages and bacon were lovely. The bread was okay, I have a preference for butter in a dish rather than in sachets – a minor quirk of mine. The haggis and black pudding were decent. I also indulged in a Christmas special hot chocolate, visually appealing and generously sized, with a pleasing creaminess, though the hot chocolate itself was just satisfactory. The pricing was reasonable, contributing to a positive overall experience, especially in the delightful company of our friends.

A lovely little cafe based in the Marchmont area of Edinburgh. Cute on the inside. Service & food were good. I had the French Toast which was nice and my son had the Breakfast Roll which he loved. The only thing I would say is that my French Toast came with cinnamon apples and they were served fridge cold. As this is a hot dish, the apples would of been much better served warm I think. All in all absolutely worth a visit though if you find yourself in Marchmont.

Always warm welcoming and friendly, a great place for a cuppa. But, today I asked if I could have a ham and cheese croissant- well the chef came to get the croissant with a face like thunder then what I got looked and tasted like it had literally been checked together- i don't think that was an unreasonable or difficult request and, they could have said no.

This establishment is pretty dire on a number of fronts, and I had a pretty disappointing experience today hence my desire to write a review

I went in for lunch at a quiet time with my partner and we both ordered the eggs Benedict

The food is pretty basic, and for the amount you pay, I would encourage you go elsewhere (there are so many options about, all better IMO). Should have been able to tell this as it was full elsewhere and plenty seats in this gaff It took 30 mins to arrive, it wasn’t busy, and the eggs weren’t runny After 25 mins a member of staff came over to say it was coming soon (still another 7 mins), they basically forgot and didn’t admit it, or the cook needs to change There is no atmosphere The rustic look ie cheap rubbish seats...

So disappointed at the changes to Red Box. I've been coming since it opened, and loved its relaxed atmosphere. The refit is nice to look at, but the changes to the menu seem baffling. Only sandwiches. No meals. The breakfast menu has been cut to rolls only - served on a paper plate! Environmentally bad, as well as unpleasant to eat off. They've also reduced the size of the tables, so bringing a group of guests, which we often did, is now impossible. Most of the tables are barely big enough for two people. The staff are as lovely as ever, but the place has been ruined for us. We've had to search for another breakfast...
