Rude staff & below average food.

I was so excited to eat here and had convinced my whole family to come with me. It started off by us entering and I politely asked a server if we just sit down ourselves or wait for a table. I received a "mhmm".

We managed to get 1 table and 2 seats, the 2 were for my sister and her partner who were only a few minutes away and were catching up. The floor wasn't that busy and there was plenty of free seats. Well this started getting us bad looks from another server even though I explained she was at the other side of grassmarket and was crossing over. 2 mins away.

My mum and step dad got the roasted vegetable soup for starter. Would NOT recommend. They said it was like the kind of food you'd get in the war. I tasted it (I'm not a fussy eater btw) and I was shocked by the lack of seasoning. It just tasted like water so it was obviously watered down. The bread they got was stale.

I got haggis balls for my starter. They were actually really nice. For main, I got bangers and mash. God it was so awful. I ate the sausages because we didn't have time to wait for other orders (we were off for a tour in half an hour by the time the food arrived). The mash was obviously microwaved due its rubbery texture. I had to squish it all with my fork but still didn't help. Tasted... like hardened fat, not mashed potatoes. It was a first for me. Sausages were rock hard at the ends (microwaved). My battered bars bar desert was probably the highlight of my experience here.

My mum got the steak and guineas pie. It was DRENCHED in guineas to the point that it was inedible. My step dad didn't even finish his burger and he loved a good edinburger. My sister asked for garlic bread and a baked potato. 20 minutes after it had arrived, it was still too hot for her to eat. But it was the garlic break that shocked me. Brown bread over toasted under the grill with cheese on top. It was rock hard when we got it.

I was so embarrassed I had thought this place would be amazing and serve incredible food. It didn't live up to these expectations in the slightest.

2 of the 5 or 6 staff on shift were actually friendly. I used to work in a restaurant bar and kitchen. It really does take nothing to be nice to your customers. It's also perfectly easy to NOT give them dirty looks, walk away in the middle of taking their order, talk to them in a condescending manner, and just make an entire family feel like they shouldn't be there. I brought my family all the way from Livingston to your restaurant. I'm still getting comments from family members about how bad their experience was and it's embarrassing.

I'm a big foodie and love to go out for family meals and get chatting to friendly staff. I will never be...

Came to this pub as a tourist earlier this week as it looked lovely from the outside. When I arrived a member of team (shaved head, eye piercing) proceeded to ask me to do track and trace, which of course is fine. I asked one question about how the track and trace worked in Scotland (I don’t live in Scotland, question was regarding the app) and the staff member was clearly annoyed to the extent that they raised their voice and talked to me in a manner that was not only rude but felt like a deliberate attempt to embarrass me. The staff member stated “this is not England” … “this is a different country” … words to the effect to underline my accent difference. To be clear, I had in no way criticised Scotland or Edinburgh, been drunk, loud or remotely obnoxious - I just wanted a drink. From just asking a simple question, unwarranted hostility was met.

It began to rain outside and a member of staff came outside to ask another table whether they’d like to come in from the rain. Again, this is fine but when they replied no, we were ignored and left outside.

Friends I was accompanied by could hear the staff member from our table and commented on how obnoxiously rude they had spoken to me. To treat any customer who is being reasonable and polite is completely unacceptable and for it to seem as if it was because of my accent is certainly not okay. Will never...

Fiddler's Arms is a traditional Scottish pub located in the heart of Edinburgh's Grassmarket. It is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, and it is known for its live music, its extensive whisky selection, and its hearty Scottish fare.

The pub has a warm and inviting atmosphere, with dark wood paneling, exposed brick walls, and a cozy fireplace. The staff is friendly and attentive, and they are always happy to recommend a drink or a dish.

The live music at Fiddler's Arms is a must-see. Every night of the week, there is a different band or musician playing traditional Scottish music. The music is always lively and entertaining, and it is a great way to experience the rich culture of Scotland.

The whisky selection at Fiddler's Arms is impressive. The pub has over 100 different whiskies on its menu, and there is something for everyone. Whether you are a whisky connoisseur or a novice, you are sure to find something you will enjoy.

The food at Fiddler's Arms is also excellent. The pub serves up traditional Scottish dishes like haggis, neeps and tatties, and Cullen skink. The portions are generous, and the food is always cooked...

Best pub I’ve ever been to! I have to start first by saying that Martin is the best bartender I have ever met to this day, and I can’t see anyone topping him. My family and I came one night, but unfortunately no tables were available and the kitchen was about to close, but we all agreed that it smelled so amazing we had to come back the next day, which we did, for lunch. Two of us ordered Moscow Mules (but to be made with Edinburgh Gin, this was a new thing we became obsessed with on the trip) and Martin happily obliged our request! He also made recommendations of his own which were highly enjoyed. Our food was fresh, hot and delicious! (And this was where we tried our first deep fried mars bar 😂) Please come to the fiddlers arms on your trip here and go see Martin, he’s amazing!

Discovering this pub upon our arrival in Edinburgh was a true delight. The server was exceptionally helpful, guiding us through their selection of beers and dishes. The food was outstanding; the sausages, reminiscent of meatloaf, were tender and bursting with flavor, while the smoked salmon was equally delectable. We enjoyed the experience so much that we returned the following evening. Being adventurous with our food choices, we tried the Haggis and Cullen Skink. We’re thrilled to have tried these unique dishes; the skink, similar to clam chowder but made with smoked fish, was particularly noteworthy. The Beer-battered Haddock and Chips were also exceptional—the best we’ve ever had! We even told the server we’d likely be back the next night as well.

Had a great time at Fiddler’s Arms. The staff were friendly, though they were clearly busy—service was still solid considering the crowd. The atmosphere is relaxed and cozy, a great spot to unwind. I had the Highland Chicken, which was pretty good overall—nice flavor and presentation, though the greens were a bit too salty for my taste. The sticky toffee pudding was the real highlight—absolutely delicious. Beer selection was solid and well-poured. There was live music during my visit, which added a fun vibe, though I would’ve preferred local Scottish tunes over the cover songs. Still, definitely worth a visit if you’re in Edinburgh and looking for a welcoming pub with character.
