If I could give them negative stars I would. I have been vegetarian for nearly 15 years and ordered a tofu fried rice. I get my rice and it has lots of veggies and looks fine. I get a few bites in a realize to my horror that it has very small pieces of chicken rather than tofu. I had to a walk up to the bar to even get their attention and they confirmed it was chicken.

They begrudginly asked if I wanted tofu now and I was shaken and said yes. While they're making it, I began to not feel well as they bring it over, so I ask for it to be boxed. I then began to have a panic attack and had to go outside while my partner waited for the bill, which he just tapped without looking since he was trying to get to me asap.

There was NO apology at all, and they seemed confused as to why I wouldn't eat it even after saying I've been vegetarian for years. And when we finally checked our bank from the car, they still charged FULL price.

If you have any dietary requirements, I would avoid this place at ALL costs - especially if it's an allergy.

Extra disappointing since we were the only table in there and they had vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free indicators...

The staff were welcoming and attentive. Atmosphere nice, and appeared clean. We were looking for an authentic Thai meal and it felt that the food although pleasant, was not like the food I knew from Thailand. It was not hot or spicy enough but presentation was lovely. The tofu green curry was nice but not brilliant, as it was too creamy and not spicy enough. The papaya salad had a hair in it and we had to send it back. They apologised and replaced it and it was quite tasty but again needed more chilli. The chicken satay was dry unfortunately and would be better served with the peanut sauce on it rather than in a tiny bowl; which didn't allow room for the chicken to be coated in it. The fish cakes were nice but not amazing. All in all it was rather tame and cooked for perceived 'Western tastes' maybe. We would have maybe appreciated an omission to the bill of the salad with hair, as way of apology. FYI: Two starters, tofu green curry, pad Thai, papaya salad, glass of wine and mocktail came to £62. All in all it was disappointing. We won't be going again. Our hunt for authentic Thai...

I recently visited Gratitude with my mother for a belated birthday meal and was very pleased with the quality of the food and service.

My mother had stir fried chicken and ginger and I had Chicken Red Curry, both of which were excellent. The red curry was milder than I've had elsewhere, but you can ask for it to be hotter and I think I would do that next time. It does allow the taste and fragrance of the other ingredients to come out though.

The wine, a Chilean merlot, was very good and reasonably priced and we finished the meal with coffee and Drambuie for my mother and a Laphroaig for me, all of which were well presented and reasonably priced.

The staff were very friendly without being overbearing and were very helpful, particularly with my mother, who isn't terribly mobile. Much appreciated.

Would come here again and...

A recent visit to Gratitude Thai for lunch was a good option to get out of the rain. We were surprised that we were the only guests in for lunch on a Saturday but 6 more were to follow over the next hour. We started with some Prawn Crackers to accompany our bottle of Prosecco, followed by a portion of Vegetable Spring Rolls and Chicken Satay. For mains we had one Pad Praw Wan chicken Sweet & Sour and one Gang Massaman Beef Curry along with a portion of Coconut rice. Food was all tasty and service good but a minor point would be the presentation of food and crockery etc needs updating. We eat a lot of Thai and the DUSIT is a good benchmark for presentation. All in all it cost £75 which is standard price these days but would try the fixed price lunch deal the next time as the food looks the same.

Gratitude Thai Lounge bar is such a wonderful restaurant, one of the most delicious restaurants in Edinburgh. I endorse it as a PhD candidate at the University of Edinburgh. I was moved by the cuisines as a Thai food person…chicken satay and prawn cakes are one of the top dishes among all the Edinburgh Thai food restaurants; and, their whisky pork.. I can’t find a word to describe. Pork is soft and tender, the wine sauce is so appetising! Fish cakes are as delicious as prawn cakes. Banana fritters are lovely as well. And, mango sticky rice! Their purple sticky rice is the best in Edinburgh. I will order their mango sticky rice every time i visit them. I ordered six dishes this time but none of them disappointed me! Will order many time in the future and try other dishes; hope to eat in some day.
