This has to be the worst Indian in Edinburgh, ordered chilli and garlic chicken, lamb curry, chicken byriani and pilau rice to take away. When we arrived for pick up we were told the system was down and they hadn’t received our order. I think he meant the chef was down. Regardless, within 2 minutes our food appeared from the kitchen. Unfortunately that’s where it should have stayed , in the kitchen!! The chef forgot to put the garlic and chilli in the garlic, chilli chicken. It tasted like tomato ketchup with raw onion and chicken in it. A salsa, so to speak but totally lacking in flavour. The lamb curry was equally flavourless as was the byriani. You would need a service dog to sniff out a single spice in the whole meal. One of our party was Indian and he agreed it tasted like it had been cooked by someone with no tongue. Morningside spice next door is far superior. I called the restaurant to let them know the chef was broken, they apologised and offered to send us more flavourless fodder. No thanks, we make much better Indian food at home. All in all a terrible experience and our new family moto is “Masti is nasty, spice is nice”.. (morningside spice next...
Read moreAwful meal at Masti last night due to poor service, rude staff and crowded restaurant. The food itself was pretty good to be fair, but the experience was spoiled by the food arriving slowly in dribs and drabs, thus we’d share one small dish between four then have to wait for the next dish, despite specifically asking for all the dishes to be served at same time. The restaurant was very busy and the staff are happy to let groups build up waiting in the restaurant and my friend kept getting jostled by a group who were waiting to be seated, and our wine was nearly knocked over several times. We were then told by one of the waiters that we had to leave our table as they were busy - after only 90minutes - and despite no mention of needing the table back at a certain time, and while we still had not finished our drinks. It’s really disappointing as we’d heard good things about Masti. If the idea is to create the ‘street food experience’ of trying to eat in the middle of a Kolkata highway, with all the noise, and over crowding then these guys...
Read moreWe went on Sunday night and we're lucky enough to get a table quickly. Starters of samosa and samosa chaat were very nice indeed although there should have been a bit more sauce for the pakora. My main of chilli chicken and aloo ghobi were very good indeed. My friend said his dishes were excellent too. Peshwari naan was excellent too. Staff were very friendly and attentive even though it was very busy. There was a queue out the door which is great for business , but not so good for diners when the doors are opened by waiting guests to chat to each other. Maybe a fan heater over the door would help this ? If I can pick up on one thing I didn't like, it was the price of soft drinks. £2.95 for a small soft drink is, to say the least, excessive. Take £1 off and people will happily pay for several soft drinks. All in all, a very positive experience and the food is very nice indeed. December is 50% off so it's an absolute bargain. I wish them...
