In my opinion, Kahani is the clear winner when it comes to Indian restaurants in Scotland. Although Dishoom is ranked higher, my experience at Kahani was exceptional due to its outstanding quality of food and service.

During my visit to Kahani, I had the pleasure of trying several dishes, including the saag paneer, samosa chaat, and mango and pistachio kulfi. The flavors and spices used in these dishes were outstanding and more appealing to my taste buds than those at Dishoom. The quality of ingredients and attention to detail in Kahani's cooking really shone through, making it a standout experience.

Moreover, Kahani's elegant and modern atmosphere provided a comfortable and relaxing ambiance, and the quality of service was excellent. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable and made us feel welcome, making our dining experience all the more enjoyable.

While Dishoom's Bombay-style street food and Indian-inspired cocktails have their own appeal, in my opinion, Kahani's superior quality of food and service made it the clear winner. It's important to note that personal taste preferences can vary, but for me, Kahani truly stood out as an exceptional dining...

Read some good reviews SO in we went on Sat.27/5/23 at around 12.45pm & chose a table at the windie 🪟 service was good & there were only 2 folks in but it soon filled up. The chicken & veg. pakora tasted spot on - the batter was crisp & not soggy & were loaded & the dip was outstanding AND we had decent iceberg lettuce 🥬 & NOT the cheep kind that sticks in one's throat 10/10. My mains was chicken 🐤 Karachi & the main thing was - it was loaded with chicken BUT it wasn't ( heat wise) piping hot like my friends chicken jalfresi & her's was also loaded with chicken+ a bit more curry sause & had a lovely fresh pleasent taste, not that mine hadn't BUT i would have the jalfresi if I'm in Edinburgh again. At least both our plates 🍽️ were warm BUT could have been a bit more hot🔥 We both had that lovely tasting mango lassi - that tastes great, but costs a whopping £4.50 each. & B4 i forget the pershwari nan that we opted for was poor - tasted of yesterdays reheat & i remember another reviewer commenting the same on their nan breed (bread) 🍞 Total cost of meal for two was £56.25 I think 🤔 the special deals will be a bit cheeper that may...

Dukh Bari kahani (translation a sad story) I went for my birthday I saw the google reviews and thought this was an excellent place 4.4 stars out of 5. I was in Edinburgh for the weekend and it was the last day. I ordered the butter chicken and lamb karai at the time the food tasted good they got our order wrong a bit but corrected it with the right food items. However when flying back to london the next day I have experienced the worse case of DIAHORREA imaginable. The food served was not of great quality and the only thing that was nice was the black dahl side dish. While the waiters/staff were pleasant and gave me a birthday cake free with candles which was nice unfortunately I would not recommend this place if you are visiting Edinburgh. I hope the restaurant get there act together and serve quality food in the future. They are in a good location but the next day if you imagine your flying on a plane and having to rush to the Lou every 5 minutes basically don’t catch a flight or use public transportation after eating from this place or you better hope you have access to a TOILET as you will...

Kahaani, nestled just a 5-minute stroll from Calton Hill, is a true gem of Edinburgh. Renowned among locals, it's no surprise it tops the charts for curry aficionados. As someone who savors authentic flavors, Kahaani's tandoor dishes whisked me back to my days in New Delhi. The tandoori lamb chops were a revelation, tender and perfectly spiced, paired exquisitely with mint chutney. The dhaba-style chicken curry, brimming with robust flavors and enhanced by the bone-in chicken, invoked nostalgic memories. While I longed for a bit more heat, each bite was a journey down memory lane. The buttered tandoori roti provided the ideal canvas for savoring every morsel. And let's not forget the mango lassi, reminiscent of the vibrant streets of Kolkata. The grand finale, masala tea, was a fitting conclusion to this culinary journey. Service was impeccable, with the courteous staff, especially Purushottam, adding a personal touch by recommending dishes tailored to my palate. Kahaani truly lives up to its name, weaving a culinary tale that every Indian missing home would cherish.

A Gem in the City: Kahani Indian Restaurant, Edinburgh Tucked away in the heart of Edinburgh, Kahani offers a delightful Indian dining experience. This charming little restaurant boasts a convenient city-center location and is easily accessible. While the menu may not be extensive, it focuses on quality over quantity. Their dishes showcase a delightful touch of spice, but fear not! They happily adjust the heat level to your preference. Kahani shines in its fresh ingredients. The meats are of great quality, and the fish dishes are cooked to perfection – melt-in-your-mouth tender and bursting with flavor. An extra perk? Kahani is BYOB (Bring Your Own Bottle), allowing you to pair your meal with your favorite beverage. Overall, Kahani is a fantastic choice for a delicious and authentic Indian meal in a cozy and convenient setting.

Went here, after looking at reviews, not from the area (from London and was considering dishoom). No alcohol served on premises - however you can bring your own bottle. They charge 25p per glass, which isn't bad. Started off the with four fairly medium sized Hyderabadi chicken pieces - 3.5 out of 5. Wasn't that juicy however came with standard mint chutney and lettuce. Mains - x2 Garlic naan, was warm and wasn't over powering with garlic. Dhaba murgh (chicken with gravey) was definitely the best. Got it slightly spicy and was just like homemade punjabi chicken. Honestly really tasty!! Lamb biryani was boneless, but again was amazing. Lamb was soft and wasnt chewy. The lamb biryani came with two average chutneys. Wasnt amazing, but went well with the biryani. Price was about £43 thats including two soft drinks. Money well spent!!
