We ordered two bacon rolls and coffees but we’re told they had no rolls left. So we asked if they could have the bacon on croissants instead. The pleasant waitress agreed after asking the owner. The bacon croissants were ok but with meagre amount of bacon. When I went to pay the bill, I was surprised to find that we had been charged an extra two pounds for the bacon croissants over the price of the bacon rolls, which I thought was a bit mean. ¿Cómo poder transmitir en un espacio tan limitado una experiencia ultrasensorial que va más allá de los 5 sentidos?

Ante tal obstáculo, desgraciadamente temo hacer una descripción superficial, pero ahí vamos.

En primer lugar, antes incluso de traspasar el umbral, ya puede percibirse la limpieza y pulcritud del establecimiento.

Con la entrada al restaurante, bien se podría pensar que estamos accediendo al paraíso, pues se nota desde el primer segundo la amabilidad, simpatía y buen aura de los trabajadores (convirtieron el día gris en uno claro por sus sonrisas apreciadas tanto en sus bocas como en sus miradas).

El escaso tiempo de espera se sintió prácticamente como inexistente al ver la enorme diligencia de los camareros.

Finalizados estos prolegómenos, llegamos por fin a la clave que más interesa: el buen yantar. Lamentablemente, no pude deleitarme en esta tarea debido a que no soy de desayunar fuerte, pero siento una imperiosa necesidad de poder hacerlo debidamente en una próxima comida.

Desayuné el banana & caramel waffle y parecióme que estaba en tres lugares a la vez: en República Dominicana por el caramelo, en Canarias por el plátano y en Bélgica por el waffle. Menuda mezcla explosiva de sabor desde el primer bocado: la textura crujiente, una dulzura excelentemente conseguida sin llegar a empalagar y una cantidad más que generosa.

Obviamente necesitaríamos incoar un sesudo expediente con varios tomos para analizar debidamente esta experiencia, la cual bien podría incluirse en la lista de bienes de patrimonio inmaterial por la UNESCO.

Pero a falta de poder deleitarme en una comida y cena próximas en mi siguiente visita a Edimburgo, hasta el momento tendré que agradecer tanto al chef, camareros y propietarios todo el mimo y buen hacer puesto en esta maravillosa empresa.

Absolutely loved this cafe! It’s family-friendly, with a calm and welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to stay a while. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment I walked in. Everything was spotless, from the seating area to the bathrooms, which is always a great sign.

I had a great meal and one of the best coffees I’ve had in a while. The pastries looked really tempting too but I didn’t try them this time, but they’re definitely on my list for next visit. The menu has so many great options and I’ll definitely be coming back to explore more....
