Okay this visit did not start well, our server was friendly but clueless. Every question that we had about the cuts of meats on how it was cooked was answered with - "I will have to ask", he would then come back and have a partial answer. We heard the server behind us tell about the ribeye special, when we asked our server he told us there was no ribeye special, so we ordered our food. About 15 minutes go by and he comes back and says that the sides we ordered were out - how does one runs out of creamed spinach??? Anyways, we ordered new sides, a few minutes goes by, he comes back and tell us that one of the steaks we ordered is no longer available, but that now "we are in luck" since there is a ribeye special. I then state, oh I wish I knew that before I ordered my steak, he then looks at me and says - "not to worry I have not placed any of your order yet". So we order it again, I ask if my steak could be cooked a certain way, and he says "I will have to ask", he never comes back with an answer. I saw a person working the floor and ask him to please check and make sure that our order was placed correctly and if it was possible to get some bread. The sides come first, then the steaks - and of course my was not cooked as I had asked, I told the lady that brought my steak that I was not going to eat it and that was not what I asked for. She had it redone and it was good. The meat was very good, the bread was bland, the beet salad was very good, the green beans were a little spicy (did not see that coming), and we ordered the beef drippings fries but they had no different flavor than the regular fries. Service was absolutely dreadful and they need to train their staff to be able to answer questions about the different cuts of meat, specials and how each steak is cooked. However, I have to say that they recognized there was a problem and gave us a discount on our final bill. The two saving graces - the quality of the meat and the fact that they tried to address the problems.

Steak Perfection If you're a steak lover and find yourself in Edinburgh, Scotland, there's one restaurant you simply can't miss: Kyloe. This establishment is dedicated to serving the best quality meat, cooked to perfection and paired with delicious sides and drinks. Kyloe's ambiance is classy and inviting, with dim lighting and elegant decor that make you feel right at home. But it's the food that really steals the show. The menu features a range of different cuts, from rib-eye to fillet, and you can choose your preferred level of doneness. The meat is sourced from Scottish farms and aged for up to 35 days, resulting in a tender and flavorful experience that will satisfy even the most discerning steak connoisseur. You can even choose your own knife 🔪 out of a selection 😉. One of the standout dishes at Kyloe is the Chateaubriand, a melt-in-your-mouth center-cut fillet that's perfect for sharing. It comes with a selection of sides like beef dripping chips, garlic & chive mash, and grilled Portobello mushrooms, which complement the meat perfectly. You'll also find a range of starters and desserts to complete your meal, from campfire smores to Scottish cheese selection. Kyloe has an extensive wine list that includes both local and international bottles, as well as a selection of classic cocktails and premium spirits. The staff are knowledgeable and happy to recommend pairings to complement your meal. Overall, Kyloe is a must-visit destination for anyone who loves steak. With its prime location in the heart of Edinburgh's historic Old Town and its commitment to quality and flavor, it's a dining experience that's sure to impress.

I booked a table after Googling best Sunday roast in Edinburgh & this restaurant came up 4.6 rating! Got to the restaurant & we’re given menus - no Sunday roast so I asked & was advised you had to pre-book they’ll check if there las any left which there wasn’t! I’ve never had to prebook a Sunday roast at any restaurant ever!! When I checked their website when you scroll to the bottom it tells you to pre-book, but who would even look this far before booking! We ordered the beef shin + haggis starter with Yorkshire pudding - nothing like I expected. Yorkshire far too crispy and ver little sauce so the Yorkshire was dry! I expected the beef and haggis to be set pate but this was mixed together in the Yorkshire, couldn’t taste or see the haggis to be honest - very bland dry dish! Main I ordered the waygu burger & o/half ordered a fillet. Ordered hand cut chips, but fries were served instead. First the burger, came with cheese & ndaju - this was far to over powering & ruined the burger too spicy! Came with hand cut chips & beef dripping sauce - this sauce didn’t compliment the dish at all! But no other side of salad, corn, coleslaw etc which is unusual! So £24 for this is over priced! Just a basic dish for the price! Fillet - was undercooked. This was £38 & you had to order all the sides and sauce on top mounting the cost up! A BBQ sauce extra was £3.25!! £3.25 for a small bbq sauce is a rip off esp when your paying £38 for the steak & the chips separate. Beef shin Mac & cheese side was bland and badly needed seasoned.

The free bread at the start was not rated and not ate and it was free. Butter far to salty.

Deserts - I ordered the s’mores. £10.00 - definitely overpriced and not worth it! Not ate either. It was basically a small biscuit, melted choc, melted marsh mallow and one scoop of ice cream, with a choc sauce over the top which didn’t taste like choc - didn’t rate this what so ever, infact the worst desert I have ever had!! £10.00!!!!!! I saw every1 with Apple crumble & asked about this & we were told this was for those with Sunday roast, they’d check if there was any left which there was and we could have a portion. Portion was big but with only 1 scoop of ice cream too much apple crumble for the side! It was ok, not the best.

Finally, given the bill a 10% service charge was auto applied. Again I checked the menu and it’s in the small print… for whoever reads this. We weren’t advised this when asking or being provided with the bill!! It then becomes awkward asking to have it removed, so we left this but not happy at all about it as I didn’t rate giving this amount of tip for the prices we were already charged I appreciate this isn’t the waiter / waitresses fault and I couldn’t fault there service apart from not asking why our dishes were not eaten - not very observant on this!!

I will never return to this restaurant the prices are shocking, the food is mediocre, the combinations are totally off with dishes not being complimented properly.

Only pros, service was good enough and...

Booked for an anniversary meal with my partner as we came to Edinburgh for a long weekend.

Looked at the menu before we booked as we saw they had a sharing Sunday roast. Perfect for a Sunday. Turned up, sat at the table, nice setting and given menus and ordered some wine.

When the waiter returned we ordered the roast only to be told you have to arrive early, pre order the dinner and it’s only served till 5pm. No where on the menu or booking site does it state this.

Waiter recommended a sharing steak and can order Yorkshire puddings and that we could add on the veg so we did.

We ordered a starter first of all. Some time later we got shown knives to go with our steak. So we picked our knives, still waiting for a starter to arrive.

The main course arrived, well some of it. The starter never came and was never acknowledge at this point. Was told the mash was soon arriving. We started eating out mains because we didn’t want it to get cold. Still no mash came out. We then had to ask, even though we had nearly finished our mains. The mash came out.

Steak was nice but wouldn’t say it was the best, knives didn’t really cut the steak as described, sides were so small and not for sharing. Was given a menu for dessert, we didn’t really want to order a dessert because we thought it might not turn up.

The waiter brought over a anniversary board which was a nice touch but no real service behind it. Just said here you go and walked off.

Ordered a cocktail which was nice. Got the bill then the waiter said about the starter not arriving which we ordered and blamed a child with allergies that was sitting away from us that made him forget.

Overall a really disappointing night and upon reflection we should of made a complaint whilst there. It was suppose to be a nice evening meal but felt like it was a disaster from one thing to another.

Thanks Kyloe for the experience. It’s highly likely we wouldn’t return if we were back...
