Great French food, pricy but worth it.
This one's been on the wishlist for a while, as it's really popular and we had to book well in advance, but so glad we finally managed to try it out, it was great.
We went for the full three course meal, which came to £60 per person, which is fairly expensive, but not too crazy and I'd say the quality lived up to the expectations.
I had, fish and crab soup to start, it was rich without being heavy 8/10 lobster (it was on special at no extra cost!) for mains was excellent. I went to town on that bad boy, my mother would not have approved of my table manners but I got every ounce of flavour of that thing, the herbs and vegetables gave it a freshness that balanced the butter, 8/10 for dessert I had the chocolate nemesis which was absolutely phenomenal, light but rich with a depth of flavour you won't get anywhere else, 10/10
Wife had, escargot for starters, classic dish they're famous for, no shells to worry about, and enough butter and garlic to kill a horse, 9/10 slow cooked beef for mains, lovely and tender and rich, very filling 8/10 crème brulée for dessert, despite such a rich main course this didn't feel too heavy, the cream was light and brulée was perfectly crisp, 9/10
As extras we also had, bread and butter, complimentary before our starters, really good tangy sourdough taste, and they gave us extra when we asked for it, 9/10 mixed vegetables, at first I thought they were slightly overcooked, the broccoli being a bit on the soft side, but the rest were fine and the herbs and seasoning on them was very tasty, 8/10
Overall we had a fantastic experience, the wait staff made us feel so welcome, despite being so popular they didn't rush us off our table immediately and we got a good 20-30 minutes extra to finish in a timely manner with...
Read moreQuaint cozy French bistro in NewTown area of Edinburgh. Brilliant French take using the fresh Scottish produce from the area. The bistro is well managed by French couple with the husband as chef and wife running the front. I have never seen such a “chill” and relaxed kitchen brigade of 2.
The menu is the obligatory blackboard which is brought to the table and propped up in the chair. The special of the day is announced by the wait staff. Everything sounds delicious. I was told that this is the place with the best steak tartare which is prepared at your table. I was not disappointed! The escargot was also very good.
Wine was well matched with the food.
The ambience is relaxed and I could have been in France instead of freezing Edinburgh. Totally enjoyed the atmosphere. Enjoyed watching the kitchen brigade work efficiently and producing steaming hot dishes effortlessly.
The bistro is closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Open for dinners only the rest of the week. Lunch available only on Friday and Saturday. There’s a cancellation fee as well.
Highly recommended for a great French bistro meal...

I came here on a Friday evening with a table booked for two people at 7:30pm. Service was welcoming and they did this cool thing where they brought the menu to us on a blackboard. It's written on a black board because it changes daily. Server came round to explain the specials and then take our order.
I started off with the crab soup. I've never had it before but it was lovely. It had a nice sweet oceanic flavour throughout. I have to say that it had more of a brothy texture than a soupy one. One of the best things about the soup was the side of rouille! Amazing deep and strong flavours from the garlic.
Then I got the Braised Beef Cheeks which were fantastic. Extremely juicy and so tender that they were practically falling apart. The sauce had a lovely sweetness to it and it was so good that after the meal I scooped up the rest with some of the bread provided. I also loved having the shallots as they had soaked up all of the rich flavours from the sauce.
I can't wait to come back here to see more dishes and...
