We had read the reviews and thought this place would be worth a visit. We were so wrong. Some bad food but discarceful service! The worst EVER!!! Bad attitude and zero apology for a horrible experience. So we had booked a table for 5 people at 7:30 on a Saturday evening. We arrived to find it ½ full. Sat down looked at the menu and ordered some drinks while we figured our what to eat. A good selection of "small plate" and mains. Upon asking about the small plates they advised us the 3 would be a good number for 1 person. (Remember this point for later). So we ordered at 7:40 a mixture of mains and small plates approximately 1 main and 1 small plate each. After around 30mins of zero contact from the waiting staff. Plus several disappearance of one of the 2 chefs (We presume to get food from storage larder outside the premises). We enquired about the wait as no food had arrived. The response was "Its coming soon we are quite busy". We checked another table of two people had arrived, but not that busy. We were in no rush so no big deal. We continued our group catch up and thought maybe it's time for another drink. Now getting the attention of the 2 floor staff was difficult as we were behind them and they were hiding behind the coffee machine. After a few attempts we finally got there attention ordered a couple of drinks (2 beers and some soft drinks) and enquired about the food again. Yes 50 minuets and no food was a little disconcerting. The response, no apology just yes yours should be next. Roll on an hour. We enquired again about the delay. "We had all the people come in at once, some were early, some where late. So that the reason the kitchen is backed up". Still no apology. So after nearly 70mins the food arrived. Most of the food was OK, not good. Just OK. However…. The tempura battered vegetables were greasy due to the thin batter. Don't know what happened as the tempura prawns were fine. So the vegetables went back. No apology. The haggis ravioli was another issue. 2 small pieces for £9. Bear in mind they said 3 dishes for one person. So six pieces makes a main costing £21. They were small if you pincked your thumb & for finger together you get the size. Your fingers being the pasta and the whole being the filling. They were under cooked and the pasta was too thick. The haggis was as thin as a 2x 1 euro coins stacked on each other and tasteless. They went back. Still no apology. After we ate we asked for the plates to he removed. A distasteful grunt followed "I am dealing with another table first". Och. That told us. So on her return we asked for the bill! So the bill arrived and we split it 5 ways and this came 70p short. To which my friend asked do we not get that off the bill for the wait. The response shocked us. In an angry tone he belted back at us "We took the food off the bill, that you did eat and that's all your getting from us, other than an apology" …… No apology was ever given through out the meal. No checks to see if we needed more drinks, no discussion about the long wait. Nothing! The attitude, the long wait, bad food and no apology. This could have been solved easily with a sorry for the long wait, sorry the food was not up to standard, sorry the chef had issues anything other...
Read moreAs a fan of Urban Fox I decided to give their sister restaurant New Town Fox a bash as we were heading into that area. The seating is well planned out and quite excited to see they have booths, which I love. Unfortunately they were all taken, though I wasn't to sure the one near the bar was taken by the young guy who was up and down from his seat hanging out with the staff. I can't say if he was a definite diner/customer. I would have appreciated the booth more than him I'm sure.
The menu was a disappointment, four mains to choose from, the rest was steak and burgers. I'm not a big burger fan but I opted for this due to not warming to the mains. I am guessing due to it just opening they are testing the water with how much food to put on the menu.
I got the small burger due to not being keen on burgers. My partner also got a burger. We asked for chips but we only got one 'poke' of chips. I just assumed they would give us 2 . The burger didn't taste of much and was warm, the small bun was very dry, thankfully the cheese gave the bun some flavour. The chips were average. Not a patch on Urban Fox chips, and the good portions at UF are amazing. There was nothing else on the plate , no salad or coleslaw.
We didn't have drinks, we had the tap water which came in a dinkie little bottle that looked cute but not practical on a busy evening as the staff would have to fill them up every ten minutes. We had two bottles given to us at separate times....he should have just brought two at the same time. The drinking glasses had a smell to them, I just held my breath.
It was neither hot or cold inside, so it was quite pleasant. The door was opened though, which on one hand was nice but the other we just heard the noisy traffic, but that wasn't a huge issue. The music was pleasant, maybe just a little but loud but we could still hear each other speak.
Staff where pleasant and asked us if we enjoyed our food. I did mention I was disappointed and that my burger was warm. The girl did say sorry but sorry is no consolation. My partner and I left hungry and went to Tescos for a few nibbles. The little amount on our plate didn't fill us up. And I certainly wasn't going to pay £3.50 for coleslaw.
Sadly I won't return to the New Town Fox. Lovely decor, nice feeling and staff managed to smile through my obvious...
Read moreWas going to go here for ages.. then covid... But went for dinner on Saturday, and it was sooo good. I have been to a few of the big chains, and they have not adhered to the new covid guidelines very well, but this place has been re-fitted and it just felt great, and no Perspex in sight. The food was really good, tried both the tempura prawns and and the pork cheeks for starter. Both really tasty and plenty. then i had the chicken Balmoral for main. It was really lovely, and beautifully presented. The desert was a bramble apple crumble, it was beautiful, made with muscovado sugar and really crunchy. It was very good value for money, especially for the area, is this the most expensive post code in Scotland? We had the pinot grigio at under £20 per bottle i thought it was excellent value. Staff were lovely and attentive, couldn't fault the whole experience, will...
