I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Hanover Tap in Edinburgh, and I must say, it was an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. This gem of a bar surpassed my expectations in every way possible, making it a must-visit spot for anyone in search of an incredible night out.

First and foremost, the staff at Hanover Tap are simply exceptional. From the moment I walked through the door, I was greeted with warm smiles and a genuine enthusiasm that set the tone for the entire evening. The team's knowledge of their extensive beer selection was truly impressive, and they were more than willing to offer recommendations based on my preferences. Their friendliness and attentiveness created a welcoming atmosphere, making me feel right at home.

Speaking of the beer selection, the variety available at Hanover Tap is nothing short of impressive. They boast an extensive range of local and international brews, catering to every palate imaginable. Whether you're a craft beer connoisseur or simply looking to explore new flavors, this place has something for everyone. The knowledgeable staff are always on hand to guide you through their diverse selection, ensuring that you find the perfect pint to suit your taste.

One of the standout features of Hanover Tap is their irresistible cocktail menu. During my visit, I was delighted to discover that they were offering half-priced cocktails—an unbeatable deal that allowed me to sample a wide array of expertly crafted concoctions. Each sip was a delightful journey of flavors, and the bartenders showcased their talent with every drink they served. Whether you prefer classics or innovative creations, their cocktail menu is sure to satisfy even the most discerning palate.

What truly sets Hanover Tap apart is its atmosphere as a sports bar. As a sports enthusiast, I was thrilled to find a place that seamlessly combines the excitement of watching live sports with a vibrant and energetic ambiance. The numerous large screens placed strategically around the bar ensured that no matter where you were seated, you had a great view of the game. Cheering on your favorite team while enjoying delicious drinks and a lively crowd creates an electrifying experience that's hard to replicate elsewhere.

In conclusion, I cannot recommend Hanover Tap highly enough. The exceptional staff, extensive beer selection, unbeatable cocktail deals, and the unbeatable sports bar atmosphere make it a true gem in Edinburgh's bar scene. Whether you're looking for a place to unwind after a long day or a vibrant spot to catch a game with friends, Hanover Tap is the perfect destination. I guarantee that once you experience the magic of this place, you'll find yourself eagerly planning...

Our experience was a mixed bag lucky for us we were one of the last "walk-in's" they were taking on Saturday afternoon. Having a prime spot in the window though a little chilly next to the door we felt lucky to get a table. As a group of 6 we sat having a good Christmas catch up, only broken up with staff telling the streams of walk in customers, it was now bookings only. This all started off polite enough before the management seemed to get more stressed and more shouty with walk in customers. Having been in for nearly 90 mins and our group having spent well over £75, I needed to visit the bathroom, as I walked past the bar the manager didn't politely ask if I had a reservation or booking but decided the best action would be to shout very loudly at me, that it was bookings only. Obviously the first shout was ignored since our group had been in for a long time and I wasn't expecting to be accosted by this point which resulted in a second even louder shout, to which I slowly return to the bar and informed the shouty lady that I had been in for 90 mins. All this in a busy bar area, I am not sure if the member of staff felt embarrassed/stressed but her response to my information was equally abrupt and no apologise offered just a curt response of I didn't know. To put this in to context a friend in the toilets could hear the shouting! On exiting a friend suggested they could perhaps have a sign saying bookings only / no walk-in's to which a member of the staff turned round a blackboard sign that said exactly this! 🤔 At a little over £24 for 2 pints, a single gin and tonic, half a coke and my non alcoholic beer the prices seem a little steep for the level of customer service on show...

Doorman upset my friend while inside the pub, staff were rude, our group left.

In response to the below reply by staff to Felicity - If you have a absolute strict 100% no hat policy, you could have let us know: From the doorman when we entered the pub When we were at the bar and staff were serving us drinks 20 mins earlier By an actual member of staff who could have came to talk to us, rather than sending a doorman to kick off about a girl wearing a woolly hat (who confirmed afterwards that he was requested to confront my friend by a member of staff, not on his own accord)

In addition, the staff were certainly given an opportunity to resolve, as we talked to them on our way out. I told staff behind the bar that the doorman had upset our friend and that we were leaving, and the only response was a blunt "Okay, leave." I think that's totally fair to call it rude behavior.

REPLY: And as a manager, you have responsibility over the people you pay to be in your pub. That could be making sure the company you use for security is aware of your policies so that they don't harass patrons, or training your staff to say "Oh, I'm sorry, let me go get the manager to resolve this" and not be dismissive if a customer is upset. But seeing as you're the kind of person who mocks these kinds of reviews on your other social media outlets, I doubt...

Slight mixed feelings on this spot. I will say the staff are friendly and our food was great. Any we interacted with was polite and prompt. I went with one friend who is vegan and another who doesn't drink- They had nice virgin cocktails and lots of vegan options. Nicely thought out. When arriving the door was blocked by a group of guys smoking that I needed to push past, and then later realised half of it was staff. 😅 Blocking their own entrance. Just bizarre. Just before our food arrived we asked that our table got wiped down, as it was super sticky and crumby from the last people. They were prompt to do it, but did about half of it with lots of stickiness left. Since the food was good and anyone we spoke with was kind, I did like it overall. Just seemed slightly like it was run by teenagers.

I am here visiting from the states and OMGAWD the beef on my burger is the best beef I've ever tasted in my entire life. I know US beef doesn't compare to beef around the world so I expected the beef here would be good but I was blown away. All of the food here was fresh, hot, well seasoned and delicious. By far my favorite meal in Edinburgh so far. The atmosphere is lively and there are locals here which was nice. The tap beer is cold and fresh! Overall an excellent choice!

Should be better. Bar has a great location and is a good sized, well designed bar, screens up for watching sport but quiet enough if you want somewhere more peaceful. Menu is standard pub fare, underwhelming but not bad. Loses a point as when I ordered an alcohol free beer and commented it was the most expensive in the city, the staff laughed and said “yeah”. The bar deserves better staff, customers deserve better priced drinks and service.
