Great - if you like BED BUGS 13-15th September 2024 Booked this with my friends as a weekend away. Came back covered in bed bug bites Unbeknownst to me, on booking.com there is a review from 17th August 2024 complaining of bed bugs. Clearly, this company knew about bed bugs and did NOTHING. I'm pleased to read that they are claiming to have cleaned the place since originally posting my review. They told me I would be refunded, then that it was on its way, then that it was in the hands of AirBnB. AirBnB kept offering insulting low refunds, whilst citing that they could not get in touch with the owners to arrange a full refund, leaving me in a joyous loop of unhelpful advisors whilst scratching constantly. I reached out to the owner whilst faffing with AirBnB asking for support with the refund, but the only messages I received were their automated ones asking me to give feedback and "haste ye back". Eventually after 1 week of daily phone calls to AirBnB, I received a full refund. 2 weeks later, still scratching. Terrible customer service from both AirBnB and the owners.

Our stay in this Guest House was exceptional. I was a bit worried when I read that there were stairs involved, since I was traveling with my mom. Luckily for us, they have a porter (Paudie) who was an angel from above. Even when we arrived at 2am from our flight he helped us with the suitcases. And then helped us again to get to our Airlink to depart. The guest house has the perfect location. Allows you to go walking everywhere. The Airlink that drops you from the airport is just 3 blocks away. The room was spacious, clean, very comfortable. It had a coffee maker with capsules + a kettle and tea bags. They also left a snack for breakfast every day. And milk. It’s affordable and the area where it’s located it’s amazing. Very safe, with a nice vibe. There are plenty of restaurants and pubs around. We felt very safe walking at any hour. I would recommend this place to anyone who is traveling to Edinburgh, because it’s the BEST! Thank you so much for everything!

I don't enjoy making negative reviews but at this point I'm very frustrated. I tried to book through booking.com and, after doing a refresh, the date changed on me before I made the booking. I asked if I could check in the following day and (due to the timezone delay) it took the property a day to reply to me. They said they have no availability and to cancel through the website. However, by then, booking.com says there is a fee to cancel unless approved by the property so they sent a request to the property. No reply. This happened a month ago and now it is almost time for my booking; still nothing. They were very responsive originally so it seems odd to me that they now have gone silent, when I am trying to get my money back. They might be very lovely in person and the stay may be wonderful, but I'll have no idea because my booking in incorrect and my only interaction has been a very bad one.

*EDIT based on hotels reply - wow even hotels gaslight now! What an extremely unprofessional reply. Is this why you don’t have cctv in your hotel, so you can accuse people of lying when there’s an issue? First of all, if we had contacted you at 2 in the morning what exactly could have been done? When we finally got to sleep for a few hours we were rushing to leave to check out on time and messaged as soon as we sat down for breakfast after checkout. I really do not appreciate being made out to be a liar. I also have the message from yourselves saying confirming we could request a refund but as we did not book through Expedia you said you would contact the director to see what could be done but then you never replied. Here’s the message:

‘Providing a comfortable and peaceful environment for our guests is of utmost importance to us, and we regret that we fell short of meeting your expectations in this regard.

We are deeply sorry for the disturbance caused by the noise from the group of men in the downstairs lounge. Please know that we take such matters seriously, and we will address this issue with the utmost urgency to ensure it does not happen again in the future.

Please request a refund via Expedia’

But thank you for your reply - now I know you’re all alive and officially ignoring me I will be contacting my bank for a chargeback.

The service from this hotel is absolutely appalling; my boyfriend and i stayed here for two nights last week. Firstly, i was not sent the check in details and if I hadn’t had emailed them an hour before we were due to arrive I wouldn’t have received them, which would’ve left me very confused seeming as you have to enter multiple codes to get to your room because there are no staff in this hotel, which leads me into our biggest problem of the stay. For some reason this hotel thinks it’s a good idea to open a communal room in an unstaffed hotel with no cctv or and no instructions of who to contact if, inevitably, people are in this communal room making noise until 6am and you cannot sleep. We stayed on a Monday and Tuesday night, on the Monday night there were a group of men (most of which were not staying in the hotel) shouting and playing music and running around barefoot on the furniture until 4am. On the Tuesday night there were a couple playing loud music and loudly arguing with eachother from 2am-6am, they were shouting so loudly at eachother that we could hear them with our earplugs in and we were staying upstairs when they were downstairs. My boyfriend shouted at them to be quiet and received a threatening reply back. The possibility of something awful happening and the police having to be called mixed with the arguing all night meant we got no sleep.

Naturally we were not best pleased so requested a refund from no.53 a week ago, on the morning we left the hotel, to which they agreed. However, I am now being ghosted by Sarah and have not received a reply or the refund. It is illegal and against the consumer rights act to not refund once you have agreed to so I will be seeking action through my bank account if this issue is not resolved.

do not stay here if you want a safe and quiet...

The first night in town I was on my own. I booked into the same place that my companions and I were staying the next night. My overnight stay was lovely. But the next day turned into a hotel nightmare, so buckle up.||I stayed in a second-floor walk-up. That doesn’t sound bad until you realize that in the UK, the floor you walk in on is the ground floor – or what we in America call the first floor. The second-floor walk-up was on the third floor!||Fortunately, there was a porter to help me carry bags and I was soon settled in for the evening. The porter and cleaners were the only staff on site. That's important.||The next day one of my roommates arrived. We couldn’t get into our rooms until later in the day, so we had time to kill. My roommate had booked the room, and we weren’t worried. We had breakfast in a nearby restaurant and then we wandered off to an art exhibit.||Upon returning later in the day, we learned that they had moved our bags to a different guest house on nearby Queen Street. They said the reservation from Booking.com had two people on the reservation, so they put us into a room designed for two people. There were three of us and it would not have worked.||On top of that, they’d given my friend us a security code for a room in the original location. She opened the door. There were three beds.||No. 53 maintained that the room wasn’t 100% ready for visitors. Just by looking at the room, I could tell it was more than acceptable.||Remember, the only staff on site is a porter and cleaners. The porter this day seemed like a non-native English speaker. There’s no front desk, no concierge, and no one you can talk to on the phone.||The ensuing discussion was via text. We couldn’t text them directly, so communication went verbally from my friend to the porter who texted “the boss.” ||They wouldn’t budge one iota. They wouldn’t get on a phone call with us. The “boss” went to lunch or dinner or whatever and left us hanging. ||We eventually booked another hotel and walked away extraordinarily disappointed. And that’s being quite polite.||The property is managed by Hotel Around Town. As a result of this experience, I would recommend avoiding all...
