This is the newest edition to Nok Edinburgh. It's a fantastic setting and the owners have worked very hard to make it comfortable and the food authentic.
I would love to give this five stars, but as a lifelong vegetarian I simply can't. The first time we went we had the ginger tofu and the pad med. We spoke to the waiter about being vegetarian and the food was delicious.
The second time we went we ordered the same but without specifying that we were vegetarian, and the dishes came packed with fish sauce.
The fact there's no vegetarian dishes on the menu is very disappointing, especially for a city which has such a large population of vegetarians. It really isn't difficult to have two sauces one with and one without fish paste.
I absolutely believe in supporting local independent restaurants. I just can't go back to Nok because the menu is very fishy.
I strongly recommend if you want really good proper vegetarian Asian food you walk the extra 50m down Morrison Street to Shizuru Tei. This is a delightful family run Asian fusion restaurant with proper...
Read moreAmbience is good, interior design very nice. I ordered short rib noodles/ramen by recommendation of two waiters. Very disappointed, big rip off. Meat on big bone was boiled—chewy with no taste. They charge separately for little bowl of rice. £4 per bowl for a rice !!!!! The rice was terrible quality and overcooked. No trace of Jasmin rice- some broken rice type. Ka Pao beef was tough and chewy and lacking Thai basil flavor. Egg was not fried properly—over hard as opposed to over easy. Tom Yum was too spicy without the menu acknowledging it. I would not recommend this place for food but would recommend for fun date but only if you order the...
Read moreService and Atmosphere were great, the food was unfortunately somewhat disappointing.
The Pad Thai had little flavour, the prawns were not cleaned and did not taste of highest quality. The Kra Pao (highest spiciness level on the menu) was ok, but only very mildly spicy. Both of these dishes felt very westernised: They lacked the fish component and real spice level, respectively.
The green Curry was good, the best dish we ordered.
The value for money was not good. The dishes itself were ok, but charging £4 for a small portion of rice is not right. Why not then at least offer unlimited...
