WORST dinning experice I have ever had in Edinburgh. I wish I never booked it. Don't book this place if you are looking for proper restaurant dinning experience. This place is NOT a restaurant. It is basically a takeaway with a few tables inside.
And the service is APPALLING!!!!
The old waiter who served us doesn't seem to give a S**T. He gave us a tiny wee table which was right next to the counter while there were a few bigger tables available upon arrival. The Sit-In was not even busy!!! The table is even too small for 2 people. There is barely room left for plates and cutlery once they put water and wine/beer bottles on the table. It is very very UNCOMFORTABLE. The whole time whist I was there, the door was left wide open for delivery guys to come in to collect the food. The food just went cold really quickly because the door was open all the time.
I have to say the food was not too bad and the portion was generous.....but I was very disappointed at the service. The quality of cutleries is shocking. I could NOT cut the sausage with the knife they provided. And no fresh plates and cutlery provided for main course.
I am very confused about previous reviews about their staff's friendly service. Maybe I was just unlucky to be served by someone who seems so fed up??!!!! It Can't be.
And What made the experience even more unsatisfying was when I asked for the bill, the waiter basically just told us the amount we needed to pay and put the card machine in front of me instead of presenting us the actual bill. This was UNPRECEDENTED!!!!
Avoid this place!!!! --and this is coming from someone who worked as a manager in big restaurants for many years and someone who knows what...
Read moreBeware if you're vegetarian!!
I was going to order online from here as it stated that they had veggie options (veggie wrap, halloumi wrap, salads) however, this place is a 12 minutes walk from my house to I decided to go myself.
Well what they call "vegetarian" is definitely NOT.
They only use one grill for both the meat and the halloumi cheese, which is part of the "vegetarian" halloumi wrap.
The staff that was preparing the food was wearing gloves, however he was handling meat and preparing my "veggie wrap" with the same gloves on, never changed them. Not that it matters as the halloumi and the pita bread is all grilled where meat and sausages were, and they use the same tongs to prepare the food.
In conclusion, if you are a strict vegetarian I would not recommend this place. If not, be my guest as they have a variety of food and other people said it was nice. Why I decided to give it a shot in the first place.
Sadly for me, I left the place very dissapointed.
Edit: Dear owner, none of those 3 statements are true, you just had one tong which were used for the sausages, the fries, and the halloumi cheese, so no, they were not any different instruments used for different food.
The staff never changed his gloves whilst preparing different order with different dietary requirements.... they even do this at Subway.
And the same grill is used for everything, anyone that goes/went there can see it!! So by replying that, you're indicating that I'm saying something that is not true.
All my review says is that your "veggie options" are not veggie, you might just change the menu to not give your clients...
Read moreWhat a shame. After reading the reviews, I was really excited to try this place. I love authentic Greek food. I ordered the chicken gyros with extra chicken and a portion of garlic bread.
It was a Friday evening and expected delivery of 1hr 5mins. It arrived at the 1hr 2mins mark. I can't complain about that. I can complain about the food. I had to heat it up again, the fries were cold. The portion size was good but I found the chicken overly salty and lacked taste. The salad looked quite sad, some wilted slices of tomato and some red onion. The garlic bread was really poor. You could see and taste the rosemary and garlic but, it had dried out. It was a cheap pre-baked demi-baguette. Literally nothing special, authentic or tasty about the garlic bread. Given the gyros comes with what looks like nice fresh bread, this was a shame.
I don't like to give bad reviews but I was disappointed with Ola Kala. The food looks and sounds like it has the potential to be great, maybe it was an off day, given other reviews I've seen. I think it could be nice, freshly cooked and eaten hot.
I will try here again but will order for collection. I don't know how many deliveries the driver(s) are sent out with, too many for it to arrive hot...
