Music is very noisy. Not somewhere for a quiet drink as there are football games/ sports played on TV here. There is a lot of seating but it's still quite busy, especially at peek drinking times. There is outdoor seating for smoker's, with a canopy so you don't get soaked which I thought was great. I wouldn't call this place expensive in regards to the price of alcohol in the capital city. I think all bars/ clubs in Edinburgh are overpriced. The outdoor seating is not solely for smokers, ur just so happened to be reading so it was only smokers outside at that present time. Many other times, on a sunny day it looks really pleasant to sit outside and enjoy a beverage alcoholic or not. You cam just order a coffee here, however, I wouldn't recommend if that's what you'd liked to do then here's probably not the best place to but you can. I think the crowd Malones attracts now is different under the previous management (Diane's pool hall). As I am no pool fan I didn't frequent this venue previously. I would return here but it would probably be better in a group of friends, rather than just two people. My expectations were it would be more Male orientated than it was. It was a great mix of people; males, females, under 25s, over 50s, tourists also. The noise level is the only reason I would be inclined not to come here in the evening, or when there's sports on. It's lovely when the sun is out and sitting outside with a refreshing drink. I'm sure there's an upper level, although I've never ventured that far, probably should. Although someone told me they serve food upstairs? I can't be certain, however, I certainly haven't saw food downstairs. Also I've not used their toilet facilities yest shl can't comment on that. Overall it was pleasant, friendly staff, fairly quick service considering how busy it was, not over priced, quirky interior, outdoor seating is always a bonus for me. I couldn't spend a whole evening here, after 2 or 3 drinks the noise is too much. Great to check it out now it's under...
Read moreIncorrect opening times published on Google and appalling staff attitude. Having been on a train into Haymarket for 1.5 hours I had developed a desperate need to take a leak. Google maps indicated that this bar is open until 1am and I arrived at their door at 0015 (intending to take care of my needs then have a drink)to find that they were closing. I asked if I could use the toilet. The member of staff said no. I explained that I’d been on the train for 1.5 hours and was close to an ‘accident’. His response was “I don’t care”. If I’d been even slightly intoxicated or in any way belligerent I may have had some sympathy for his attitude. If he’d phrased it in any reasonable, considerate way or shown any empathy, I may have found it acceptable. Instead, he demonstrated that he absolutely does not belong in any kind of customer facing environment. Update your opening times and get rid of...
Read moreBe warned, this pub operates a flawed system of table reservations (never known this in a wet led pub like this as it’s not a food / gastro pub) . Watching the European football on the tv (no audio) and mid way through the first half, we were a table of 5 people, we were all abruptly told to vacate the table by a stern looking staff member. No alternative tables offered, we were just told to stand up and the only space left to stand was literally touch tight to the seat Id been sitting in for an hour. The bar staff had failed to place the reservation notice on the table, as it was left behind the bar, which was clearly their problem not ours, but as the football match was on we gave up the table & left the premises to go to the pub closer to the station which was a lot better in customer service and had better seating to watch the...
