I’m still here and terrified of what I’m going to get to eat. Server is a very angry young lady (both from attitude and the music playing). She argued with me about how Gruyère is not vegetarian as it contains animal rennet. I wanted to respond that all cheese came from animal product but was worried she’d lose it. She kept arguing about it (I don’t like meat - simple, I like cheese - deal with it, lady!) I do think that it’s because I look very Mediterranean and I’ve noticed a few situations where the welcome is frosty in this town (one bus driver actually denied that he went to my stop. A passenger stepped in to shame him). People (and Honeycomb lady) - you wouldn’t have jobs or homes without us. Respect, please.
Update: she refused to take my money because she saw the review and had a problem with being called out. Funny how she didn’t consider how I felt when I was treated like an idiot who didn’t know the difference between vegetarian and vegan and didn’t know what she liked to eat. I’d love to say that I enjoyed the breakfast, but unfortunately the whole experience left a bad taste...
Read moreMy husband and I came for the sit-in brunch. • Black forest pancakes, £9.50 • Scrambled eggs w/nduja (veggie version) sourdough and buttery mushrooms (+1 egg), £6.50 • Mango iced tea, £4 • Hot chocolate £4 Total: £24.00 Simple service, one staff member, cozy atmosphere, nice décor, huge tea selection, veggie options. [12:50] Iced tea: refreshing, aesthetic presentation. [12:59] Hot chocolate: very rich, not powdery like others. [13:12] Pancakes: Genuinely the best black forest anything I've had. The cherries are full in flavour but aren't too tart, the chocolate pancakes are fluffy and light. The cream really tops it off, If I could give this 10 stars I would. Plus the serving was far bigger than expected. Egg & toast: Perfectly poached egg, custard-y Scrambled eggs, mushrooms were beautiful. Notes: I usually eat my food entirely before writing a review, but I wanted to praise this place immediately so I'm writing this while eating. Bless the lady on shift, she is friendly despite having to run the place on...
Read moreWhere to begin... This place is AMAZING! I mean that seriously and I am not a relation of Lisa, the owner, or a paid reviewer. We were recommended this place by family who had visited Edinburgh and it is really terrific. The food is delicious and the portions are generous. Most amazing is Lisa, the owner/chef/everything. She does not have any other staff and some reviewers might suggest she is a little cold. She isn't, she is (as she told us) just focused and, if you chat with her, you will find she is delightful, warm, charming and funny. How she turns out such consistently great food is beyond us. The business and every dish is a labour of love. She has fastidious attention to detail and customer satisfaction. You may need to be patient but it is worth it. Come here, say hello and you won't be disappointed. You will also be supporting a great local business and extraordinary woman. Highly recommended. Thank...
