Preachers isn't about to win any awards for their interior decor. But that's ok. The lack of magic in the 'foyer' is more than made up for by whatever Gandolf and Dumbledore are cooking up in the back. The spellbinding lorne/square sausage roll i just devoured like a right wee greedy bass-chard was biblical. Last week i requested a 'crispy bacon' roll and got exactly that. Sure, i was made to wait for it but patience is indeed a virtue and easily makes up for being handed a bacon roll of the non-crispy variety which you only realise is such when you sit down to 'enjoy' your Friday treat and it's too late to do anything about it bar sob gently into your 'breakfast meat' which looks like a good vet could bring it back to life. Ask for crispy at Preachers and you shalth be rewarded. Their morning rolls are soft and opulent and i saw with my own eyes a batch going in the oven. And don't get me started on their scotch pies... Ok, do get me started. Granted, they lack a touch of picante but that's my own taste. The pastry though. Geez Louise. Let me take a moment. (Also made in store. I asked.) Well done Preachers. You have played no small part in helping me to defeat this raging hangover. I... i... i love...
Read moreHad an amazing time at this bakery when I went a couple of weeks ago! We were lucky to get some space at a table since the place is small but it was lovely! I got the scotch pie which I was super excited to try and everyone in my party said that they wish they would have gotten it as well! Super rich crust and the meat inside was very flavorful. The other people in my party got some breakfast sandwiches which were also great but the scotch pie was just so unique compared to what we usually get so it was definitely a crowd favorite. We also got one of the cherry scones and thought it was delicious! My sister got a cappuccino and it was also amazing (they make them right behind the counter so it was super fresh)! The service here was amazing as well! We didn’t really know what we wanted when we came in, but they were so kind to us and gave us some great recommendations! I would definitely come back to the bakery and highly...
Read moreI came across Preacher's while looking for places to visit during my recent trip to Edinburgh. I was not disappointed as their food, service and general atmosphere was great. I tried haggis for the first time and it was good. I also recommend the scones, I got the cherry almond. But what I really enjoyed was that it was a well loved local spot where people knew each other from the neighborhood and knew the owners. When you travel you always try to avoid tourist traps and this is one place off the beaten path that does just that. It did get busy and seating is limited but if you can't grab a seat walk around the neighborhood. It's Edinburgh, there is always something to look at.
I tried to go back to bring some scones home and they were closed. I was devastated ( still am the scone was amazing) so learn from my mistake and check the hours and go before...
