The Dower House Café — Restaurant in City of Edinburgh

Good coffee, good cake but the waitress was unkind. She didn’t allow me as a Chinese to sit in while there were lots of white people sitting. So I could only grab my drink and sit outside in the cold wind!

Firstly, the staff didn't explain the rule before we purchased, and therefore, we didn't know why we were not allowed to stay in. It'd be better if we knew the rule and then we could've chosen to sit outside or leave straight away, wouldn't it? Also we arrived at 4.03 which was almost half an hour before 4.30 so we were very confident to finish a cake and two hot drinks before that. She should've consulted with us instead of just sending us into the cold rain without any explanation. I respected your job but didn't have good experience. A well kept secret by local dog owners and families with children that enjoy here refreshments after a walk in St. Margaret’s Park (see photo). This is a tiny cafe with stone floors on the ground floor of a 16th century house, (see photo) in the park there is a plaque remembering the Corstorphine witch hunt (see photo)! But the atmosphere in the cafe’ is friendly and cozy (see photo). I had an excellent Chai tea and a vegan-gluten free carrot cake (see photos). The icing was soft and airy, the cake was moist and not too sweet and the orange accents were perfect. Just delightful! Fantastic coffee, charming staff and dog friendly! An excellent flat white was enjoyed outside (there's a few tables inside and then outside too) in the sunshine and I got focaccia sandwiches to take back to my mate's place for lunch - I had the cauliflower, hummus and pickled red cabbage and it was delicious.
