It was a weekends family getaway to Edinburgh to visit castle and town. Unfortunately the wether was terrible. It was rainny and very windy Sunday. After sightseeing we wanted to grab some comfy food and warm up. We were obviously with kids and we understand that not everywhere kids are allowed in pubs especially at certain hours ( it was almost 18.00). However from the London area I know that if any pub would allow kids it would be Wetherspoon. Here was unpleasant surprise, by the entrance we were informed by the security that the family area is full and we cannot dine in ( tho there was no any queue or any people coming in or out, it looked like really quite evening). We were not allowed to enter premises. All really seemed very suspicious as they straight away turn us down.. they didn't bother to check with floor what is the situation. It was very upsetting I must say. We were with kids age 3-5 years old all wet and hungry and they just simply did not bother, did not attempt to be a bit of help. We've hardly seen any other places nearby suitable for family dining, so ended up running back to parked cars and off we went to the MCDonald hungry, wet and exhausted.
I probably could really understand if security would advise that unfortunately this particular Weatherspoon policy is that kids are not allowed but that wasn't what they said. They claimed that the whole family area was completely packed but like I said they even didn't bother to double check (and we were standing there and trying to figure out what to do next for about 10-15minutes). I will add that due to this situation, awful weather and overall exhaustion, we didn't try our luck at any other Wetherspoon located in this area, too afraid that we will be met with the same hostility. Very...
Read moreI entered the Standing Order Edinburgh tonight after being told that I was not allowed to go there for a period of six months this was as a consequence of being manhandled by an acting manager for singing with other patrons. I was given no reason for being refused entry at the time but was told after review I have been given a lifetime ban today. I will not lose sleep over this matter as No staff member of weatherspoons has the right to grab a sober customer and try and force them physically out of the rear entrance of their premises and then conduct a kangaroo court to justify their actions.. To justify this sort of hostile and physical abuse is setting a new low for members of the public who just want privacy to have a cup of tea.It is not in the interest of Weatherspoons to allow staff members to take their personal problems and dislikes out on customers in a negative and hostile manner and sets a new president in poor customer relations and or training. The attitude of some of the young female staff members who think they are entitled to growl and intimidate members of the public because they are having a bad day and then lie about their behaviour is indicitive of a lack of education and or poor life skills.Management also have to take reponsibilty for not monitoring the behaviour of their junior staff and making sure they are polite and friendly to all customers. To be refused to be served by young female staff members behind the bar because quote 'I have a bad attitude ' is called reverse psychology when it is the staff members who have a bad attitude and discriminate and project their personal issues with impunity. The other one star reviews support my factual account.Religious bigotry...
Read moreThis brand always comes through when everything else is falling apart and they certainly delivered on this day.
On the day I visited, a storm had hit Edinburgh, it was incredibly windy and local TV and radio would have you think you should never go outside, of course loads of bars and eateries had shut down and thankfully this place was open for business, it was certainly more quiet than usual and I just squeezed in breakfast but that's my fault for sleeping in.
Considering the circumstances (Edinburgh buses, trains and even trams had shut down) this place was staffed and there was still food and drink available when any other chain could have used any other excuse to shutdown for the day, The Standing Order didn't.
I used the Whetherspoons app, ordered my food, paid via my phone, my empty coffee cup (with free refills) turned up minutes later as did my breakfast, and I sat there, although I used my app, some customers prefer to order at the bar and the staff couldn't of been more helpful to them.
The bar is big and spacious and having been here before, I know how busy it can get but it's layout really works for the customer, the food is classic Whetherspoons but it certainly does the job and you can never complain about free refills.
So to the staff of the Standing Order on that stormy Friday, thank you for being there when other places shutdown because of some windy weather, and they even had all the rolling news channels on all the TV's, so people could follow the events unfolding...
