The place was packed out on arrival. We had booked and so waited patiently by the bar only to be overlooked while two other parties came in and were taken off to be seated. Eventually we were taken to our table. Not too long to wait for poppadoms and drinks. Starters took a while and were okay. Main meal took more than 45 minutes to arrive and only because we asked how long it was going to be. The restaurant is very tight for space and so we were forced to listen to a raging bore of a guy who appeared very drunk, talking the table next to us ears off whether they liked it or not (at the top of his voice) ghastly!! No one asked if we would like more drinks or apologised for the wait. Other people were also complaining about the time taken to be served. We finally got our meals but my main was not what I ordered. They took it away. I waited...hubby and son half finished theirs by the time they came back with the right curry. I wish it was worth waiting for but sadly it was not! We had booked as a special occasion for hubby’s birthday but it was a complete disaster from start to finish. As we waited at the bar to pay we were asked what the problem was by ?the manager? A guy coming down the stairs overheard us and chipped in to say their experience was also very poor and they wouldn’t be back. One saving grace? The guy had the good sense to just charge us for drinks...I feel I have to say ‘thanks for making it right’ but we just wanted a nice meal with good service really... Sad end to an otherwise brilliant weekend for the Advent market and Christmas...
Read moreWe visited to this con artists lair on Christmas day where they had a set menu containing lamb and turkey which we don't eat. We then decided to leave as there wasn't much we could eat of the set menu but the waiter said that he'll make something special us. We were pleased by this. He said he'll make us a chicken biryani and a chicken tika masala and some naan just for us. At this time we said Do you have any veg dishes and they said no and we said OK that's fine we'll just have the biryani, curry and naan. Then when she brought the food she also brought a "mix platter" that we never ordered. This was revolting. It had a miny veg samosa that was clearly from a packet that they chucked in the oven and some raw uncooked chicken. We ate the samosa but not the chicken as we didn't know if it was even safe to eat. Then came the revolting chicken tika masala which we didn't eat. We only ate the naan and the pickle. We didn't touch the biryani and parcelled it. We ate a bit of the biryani at home which gave us a horrible stomach ache. Then she came with a veg dish that we just asked if they had but never ordered. The bill came to £60 for biryani, curry and naan. They charged us £15 for the "mix plater" and 15 for the veg curry. We said we never asked for these two items but they made us pay anyway. I understand that the waiter allegedly made the biryani and curry from scratch, but they purposely gave us the veg curry and mix platter to up the...
Read moreRahin, Jan, and Jumman provided exceptional service. Could not have been more amiable, smiley, friendly and warm. They have a professional but jolly and cheery attitude which puts you at ease and they'll even have a laugh with you. All of the above is very rare to see in any restaurant. Equally rare is to see vegan options in a Bengali or Indian restaurant. They have 4 or 5 main dishes that are specifically listed as vegan! Never have I seen this before. In addition, upon enquiring, I learned that they don't use ghee! So all the vegetable side dishes (that don't have cheese) are vegan as well! I would strongly recommend they make a separate vegan menu with all of these on, or else put (VEGAN) next to the side dishes. Otherwise people won't know!
Staff remembered us and took time to talk and get to know us and tell us about them as well.
The food is incredible, really wonderful, all the dishes were great.
Recommend Rasoi to anyone, ESPECIALLY vegans who will feel welcomed by the menu options.
(I suggest that the chef adds a vegan dessert, we didn't fancy a dessert today - but if we had, I would have had...
