A fleeting trip to Cirencester required a pit stop for food and drink, we popped into this place as the menu seemed reasonable. We both had Nachos and a couple of Cokes. Waiting time was ok as the pub wasn’t particularly busy, I’d say about 10-15 mins. I’ve had better, more flavoursome Nachos but these aren’t bad. Bar staff polite and friendly, server not so much. We couldn’t quite put our finger on it but there’s a slightly odd feeling to the place, like it needs more atmosphere, some money spending on it, not necessarily making it flashy or anything as it’s a nice old pub but just lacking “something”. Toilets very dated but at the same time quite quirky. Good clean condition.

Posting a review a week after visiting. Honestly only had the one drink in here, so not really a definitive judgement but ; real ale fine (I offer the opinion Arkells ales have improved since I last drunk them pre covid), staff super friendly, food didn't eat so no judgement from me, what slightly let the place down was the interior which didn't seem to match the historic nature of the pub. It was ever so slightly bland. As if Arkells had given their interior designer a week off at the end of the last refurb contract. But I'd definitely drink in here again when back in Cirencester. Cheers Matty x

A lovely, unpretentious pub in the very center of Cirencester, which is a fine city itself. It is very spacious with lots of nooks to sit in, so it doesn’t feel overcrowded even with many people. There are some tables outside, but we stayed inside as it was raining. The pub is dog-friendly, so lots of local people pop in for a pint while walking their dogs. The food was tasty, and the portions were sumptuous. Good beer. Helpful staff, who warned us about a 45-minute wait, but the food arrived much earlier.

Went one evening in August with my two daughter 's Stephanie and Lucy and my son in law Matthew. I have just moved to Cirencester and had arranged to meet my Eldest daughter Stephanie in the Park with her husband Matthew. When l arrived l had one of the biggest surprises. My youngest daughter Lucy was there to meet me too , l did not know and it made us cry ( she and her husband Andrew live in Salford, Lancashire ) it was such a lovely surprise. From there, we went for a walk starting from the park, behind St Johns Church in the Town, we must have walked for at least 2 hrs and finished off, a lovely day, at Pizza Express and then to the Crown Pub for a drink. It is quite a rustic pub and lots of young and old like it. I have visited on a number of occasions with my daughters and friends especially at Christmas time. Not the kind of pub if you want a nice quiet evening enjoying a drink, but if you don't mind hustle and bustle and lots of talking then this is your thing. ...

We had booked a table for Saturday lunch time and were disappointed to find that we were to sit on flat wooden benches. We both ordered the fish pie, which was only as nice as one from a supermarket, and the portion size was small. There were no vegetables and it was served with two slices of brown bread - without butter - which was pretty weird. The young chap who served us said "Enjoy Guys!" which we really dislike. Those two small fish pies and a pint and a half of beer came to £32.35 if you can believe it!

The other peculiar thing about this pub is the very limited range of beers on draught. They had a New Zealand IPA on offer but such bizarre imports seem out of place in a pub with so few domestic choices.

There was also a Staffordshire Bull Terrier that gave out a massive bark every five minutes but the owners of said dog were not asked to leave.

I would not bother going back to this place - there are better places to eat in...

I'm writing this review approximately one week after our visit to Cirencester. We had a brief stay at an Air BnB in Bibury, a short distance away and came to Cirencester to visit the Saturday market and see what the village had to offer. Lunch became the issue and we found ourselves outside the Crown pub and decided to try it out. The pub was quite full naturally at lunchtime and we were 4 adults and a baby but the staff managed to find us a cozy corner and provided a high chair for the the bairn. The libations were excellent and the food was superb. The Steak and Ale pie was the best I've ever sampled in my 73 years and from all accounts, the rest of our group were very happy with their choices. The staff were all switched on and friendly and strived to make ours a pleasant...
