German Doner Kebab (GDK) — Restaurant in Coventry

Terrible experience

After waiting a month for this place to open, I was very excited to come in yesterday and test out “the german kebab”

I came in full of hope and left with utter disappointment. I arrived yesterday at 17:50 and didn’t leave until 18:12 I ordered a kebab wrap meal with onion rings and a can of coke to take away which come to £7.99, abit overpriced but I was more than happy to try it out.

After watching a staff member walk around with my meal for 5 minutes asking everyone in the shop if It belonged to them, then proceeded to leave it on the counter for another 5 minutes before someone shouted out the order number.

This was just the start of it

After collecting my order about 10 minutes after it had been made, I left the shop and found that my order was incomplete. They had forgot my onion rings.

So I returned and told the cashier . She was kind and apologized for the mistake, but the queue got busier and she forgot. I proceeded to wait another 10 mins before approaching another member of staff which I could only assume was the manager asking him to put some onion rings in my meal.

I explained to him that I had been waiting 20 minutes in total for my incomplete meal and that I just wanted my onion rings.

He then asked me for my ticket number which I didn’t have as I’d already gave It to them, then he proceeded to interrogate me on what I had ordered, before giving me my meal back with the onion rings.

After finally getting my meal, it was cold but I couldn’t be bothered to go back and dispute as I was already late for work.

I was very excited about this place opening, but this one experience makes me never want to go back again and I will not be recommending to anyone that I know to go there.

That is what i wrote two years ago now, however in that time the restaurant, and the chain itself i believe having been to other locations, has unfortunately declined in quality greatly. To start, I'm not sure when exactly, but a while ago they underwent sort of a big change in operations. There was a noticeable rise in price for almost every item on the menu along with an also noticeable decrease in the size of portions. What would used to be considered already underfilled medium size doner box is now considered their large box, a barely half-full box with a few bits of doner meat and mostly just cheap chips. The service is abysmal, they have two self-service machines, but typically at least one is not working, and in the case that I would need to order at the till, it seems that what few staff are not always on break seem to generally ignore my presence entirely and have a gossip with the people in the kitchen area just behind the tills. The overall atmosphere has also changed entirely. Multiple tables will be left uncleaned with the previous customers' leftovers and/or trash for a dozen minutes or more on the regular, and more food scraps and bits of wrapping from kebabs or burgers litter the floor under those tables and just around the general area. Overall, its disappointing to see the decline of the restaurant, as it used to be a decent place to get a nice kebab or burger at a reasonable price and to sit and enjoy the meal in a clean area, but it seems that they have really let the place go, and this applies to their other locations i have...

Very disappointed. I went on my break yesterday at work (26th April) to get a portion of fries as I had three hours left of work before finishing to go home to a meal awaiting. I called the shop before leaving for my break to ensure that i wouldn't be waiting for a while as my break was only 30 minutes, the lady on the phone (indian lady) said it was wasn't busy and laughed that i even called to collect fries. As i went in store to place my order the manger (female) and the lady who answered my phoned laughed between each other after i placed my order whispering to each other going 'she's here'. Then after i receive my fries as I am walking out, the lady laughs and tells her colleagues ' she just collected chips haha' laughing away and so loud yet hadn't even left the shop yet. I've never felt so victimised to have ordered £1.49 chips, when I order from this place on Deliveroo 3-4 times a month with £15+ orders always and once In-store when I spent £25 and the first time I only spend £1.49 I am laughed out. I then called the store to try speak with the manager which i then found out was the women laughing with the employee and she was insincere and in fact said she didn't understand my point. I asked for an apology from the employee, the manager refused. Never ever going to GDK in Coventry ever again after being disrespected. I hope people don't get treated like this in the future.
