WOULD NOT return!!
Firstly despite of any response to this Please be aware this is the truth and of course any response is going to "try to look good on google reviews" Here is what really happened today:
We arrived, sat outside and ordered our REGULAR Sized coffees and when the coffee came out to us (after nearly 40 minutes wait) we were ordered to pay instantly "pay now attitude" and the funniest part was that we were told there would be a EXTRA CHARGE to sit where we sat!!! (outside the door a long with a few others) and also that we were being charged the price for LARGE drinks when we specified Regular...
The lady owner Joan then came out with a very rude attitude stating that we want to “pay cheap and be like that” when in reality all we wanted was to pay for what we ordered and not be charged extra for something had not ordered?!! And especially NOT BE to be charged extra for sitting outside!!!!!!! WHO DOES THAT???!!!!!
What this lady did not know is that I own 5 very successful restaurants across both Derbyshire and South Yorkshire and not once in my life have I ever experienced such a poor insulting rude service. There was No apology from the owner for the mistake on their part, just a stinky attitude for catching her out trying to over charge customers !!! Disgusting!
To finish (in a rush) as we felt very over looked, we drank our drinks which arrived Luke warm after 40 minutes!!! and to be honest McDonald’s coffee is better than this place that is the absolute truth. Utter waste of time I wish we went somewhere else as this ruined our day.
Very Poor service will not be returning as someone who loves Matlock I am actually ashamed of the service that this place offered.
Bottom line If you want over priced poor coffee go here. If you want actual hot coffee and a nice atmosphere go elsewhere. Even McDonald’s.

Read moreEarlier this afternoon my partner & myself called into this pleasant fairly new Coffee Hse "The Fig", we were warmly welcomed by the owner Joanne & her young waiting team. Although the coffee hse was busy & Joanne was preparing the orders single handedly & training her new team, she made time to welcome us. For personal reasons we chose to sit inside, as we were about to enter a couple sitting outside said they could definitely recommend & we wouldn't be disappointed, this comment was definitely correct. When inside we were shown to our table which was cleaned & placed in accordance to Covid Restrictions. We were given time to settle then Joanne personaly informed us of what home made cakes/pastries were available. John chose a slice of Victoria Sponge which he devoured, I chose a very fresh Fruit Scone which was served warm with jam & cream (which was my choice, butter was available if preferred); I thoroughly enjoyed my scone. From a large choice of coffees we both ordered a large latte, these lattes were the nicest we have had in a long time. Besides a large choice of coffee, there was also a large choice of teas, hot chocolates & soft drinks. I believe there was a Vegan/Vegetarian menu also available. Even though Joanne was very busy preparing orders, training staff, etc, she had time to chat to customers which was very nice as it seemed more personal and we weren't just another customer. We would certainly return to The Fig & definitely recommend to others. The Fig is situated in a better part of this town away from the amusement arcades & chippies; it was a short wlk from the railway station on the opposite side to the river. Wishing Joanne & her team all the best with The Fig especially during ths very...
Read moreI'm sure my mum and I came here some years ago, when it was under different management, and we found it to be a lovely place to stop for a coffee and cake. So when I explored the antique shops in Matlock Bath, I decided to have a look at what coffee shops were around in Matlock. The Fig Coffee House came up and, after looking at some reviews and pictures, decided to give it a try.
Seating outside seemed plentiful, but I decided to sit inside with the weather being a bit unpredictable. The lady, who I think is the owner, greeted me with a smile, as she mentioned it was table service. With it not being overly busy in there, I was able to find a table straight away. After a few minutes, the same lady came to bring me a drink and food menu, noticing when I came in the delicious selection of cakes that were on display. I went with a piece of the cherry bakewell slice and a cherry hot chocolate. The cake was moist, with some full cherries present. And the hot chocolate... My word! Never before have I had a cherry one, but it was superb! I could really taste the cherry with each and every sip, right down to the last drop! Also had a malteser and a flake too on the side, which was a nice little surprise.
After enjoying my cake and hot chocolate, I went up to the counter and paid for my order, which came to under £10... Great value I'd say! The young lad who I paid at the end, was very pleasant and wished me a good rest of the day, before I left. It's little things like that, which make the experience a very pleasant one and make you want to come back, which I will certainly be doing in the future! I forgot to mention the lady who brought my cake and drink out, who was also very pleasant... All round great...
