A sad affair. We was recommended this place today for food, as a bar they’re decent, it’s a decent atmosphere and yaknow, it’s alright. As a food venue, not so terribly so: Our order was as follows: Nachos - sharer with beef chilli added for extra cost: So the nachos were actually decent, cheese was nice, salsa and sour cream etc. the ONLY let down was the chili you have to pay extra for, not only is it cold and quite lumpy (we’re talking big chunky of it in places), with the chili being added cold and lumpy, it screams tinned chilli and that’s what we think it was. So if you get the nachos, don’t add on the chilli 8/10 without chili. With chili it’s a 4/10 Pesto pasta : one of the only dishes we both agreed on, I personally didn’t like one of the ingredients but it was simple and easy to pick out. Overall 7/10 N’duja pizza: spicy but was okay, did what it advertised to do. Nothing special but not bottom shelf, I’d say 6/10 Okay so this is the talking point to this review: Verdi pizza: White base, all the ingredients by themselves taste good, but throw it all onto a pizza and it’s not as nice at all, I did just pick most of it off and eat the pizza base (the bread base is literally the best part of the pizzas), BUT my partner didn’t bode so well with this pizza, shortly after eating she said she wasn’t feeling too good and on the way back she puked up / vomited on the floor outside (across the road by the bus stop), obviously isn’t food poisoning as that doesn’t happen that fast (I’ll keep an eye on her) BUT I do believe the food has a very big part to play with this happening after we left, I don’t believe anything else could of caused this. I did call them to let them know she was sick just outside after eating there and they didn’t really say much besides “we’ve been selling the pizzas all day and no one has had an issue”, which is fine BUT it did affect someone even if that’s only one person. Overall, as a pub / bar 6/10, for food 3/10 Price wise it’s alright, nothing to complain about, nothing to write home about either, I’m just shocked that my partner threw up from the food and like actually threw up, not just “oh yeah she piled in her mouth” etc, no she actually puked a decent amount and I was shocked.

Unfortunately the food wasn't edible at all I ordered the 10oz steak I asked for it well done but it was burnt and I couldn't get my steak knife through it. My wife ordered fish and chips when I went to the bar to complain about the steak the very pleasant member of staff asked what she could do ie a refund I was hungry and was told it would take a while for another steak. In the end I ordered fish and chips which was vile hardly any fish and all batter,my wife didn't eat all her fish as she said it wasn't nice. Then when I had to ask for the difference in price for the fish and chips and the steak which I feel should have been handled by a member of staff not myself. The staff were young and doing a great job under a very busy pub however I feel as though the place was very understaffed which may have been the reason for this poor visit. As a first time visitor i feel that you must improve your food and get more staff to cope.

Went for Sunday lunch as we were staying in Matlock and The Fishpond had been recommended by a family member. We were seated upstairs in the main dining room which was bright and welcoming and had music playing in the background. Warm welcome from staff and carvery process explained. We went to get our meals and what an awesome experience.the chef carving the meats greeted each and every customer explained what was available and how many meats you could have and the variety of vegetables was just wonderful. All fresh and well presented and the 2 staff running the carvery were constantly topping up and keeping the area clean and tidy. I can honestly say it was one of the best carvery's I have ever had and it was reasonable on price. One of our party had the vegetarian option and that did not disappoint either. Well done to the whole team especially the chef. Great experience and we all left very satisfied with our meals.

Disappointing. Went for a carvery. Booked in for a table and went with our dog. When we arrived we stood with the sign that said "wait here." But no one came, so we went to the bar. The woman behind the bar told us she was waiting for someone to come back, so we stood awkwardly in silence for a few minutes. I found it odd that we had to pay before getting our carvery ticket, as I've never had to do this before. The food was okay, the lamb was lovely but the beef was a bit tasteless. There was a big difference in the vegetables my partner had to the ones I got. His carrots were charred and nice, but the ones available when I went up were very soggy and mushy. The cauliflower cheese was appalling, watery with no flavour. The red cabbage, leeks and peas were good though, can't fault them. My stuffing balls were undercooked dough, but again, my partners weren't, so it was very inconsistent. We found it very difficult to be comfortable while eating, as we were sat next to the fire and it was sweltering. We didn't choose this table and someone even came to stoke it up with more wood while we ate. By the end we just wanted to leave quickly and get some air. The weather wasn't great, but not cold enough to warrant a blazing fire. I will also say its very cheeky to have £13.95 as the price for an adult carvery on the website, and have no other way of seeing the price before paying as its not displayed in the pub. Its actually £15.50, and after questioning the staff we were told the website needs updating, but they seemed to just not care. I also mentioned about the fire being too hot, and it being uncomfortable, but again I was met with disinterest and a vague "okay" response. We won't be back, and its a shame as we had high hopes for such a well...

We came to the fishpond as we do frequently Usually we’re so happy with the service and atmosphere along with the quality of the food We placed our order at the bar Waitresses were chatting away not fully listening We ordered the bbq pork belly and satay Asian rice bowl off the mains menu However when the meal came we received the char Sui belly pork starter instead of the main meal We stayed the order had come incorrect The waitress came across very sharp and snappy she offered no apology We offered to pay the difference as mistakes happen despite the attitude of the rude server Waitress accepted payment and placed the correct order then came back around 5 minutes later stating it would be a further 25 minutes wait for the correct meal She then asked if we would like the starter with “some rice” instead At this point we had paid for proper meal this response was unsatisfactory offering us a starter with “some rice” at a full mains price

We asked for a refund as one of us already had a meal so we ended up splitting the Asian rice bowl Which was delicious but unfortunately not filling

Again waitress was rude returning the money and still offered no apology for her mistake Which would have been avoided if she was doing her job correctly

Overall as usual lovely atmosphere the food we received was brilliant however reluctant to return due to the rude waitress and unsatisfactory rectification...
