Popped into the Midland Pub at North Parade, Matlock Bath in Derbyshire for a lunchtime meal.

The menu choice and food served after ordering was ok, albeit the meals were not served as hot as they should of been, (we chose a homemade slice of steak pie with fries and garden peas).

Although the service was ok the appearance of the pub both inside and outside is let down by it being in a really poor state of maintenance and cleanliness.

This is not just in one area, it's the whole pub and rear beer garden / garden terrace areas too.

From the front entrance it doesn't look too bad but inside it's totally different.

Expect to see dirty floors, walls, and seats, misted up windows, paint falling off everywhere, dirty toilets with holes on the walls where tiles have fallen off, and just neglect everywhere you look.

Would also of preferred it if the resident pubs large dog wasn't free to roam everywhere.

Overall, it's ok to visit for a quick drink and a bite to eat, but don't expect much of a nice dining experience.

If we had got more time on the day we would of walked out and gone elsewhere!

A real shame considering this Matlock Bath's fantastic pub location which is right on the side of the river just at the end of the access road to the train station, it's also directly opposite the Balti Restaurant Indian restaurant.

With some money spent and some good effort on cleaning and maintenance being carried out it could be totally transformed into a nice place, and not the scruffy pub it is at present.

Hoping things change here for the future, but we won't be returning back to the Midland in a rush with...

The Midland was the very first stop as we arrived in Matlock Bath for a weak of adventure in the Peak District. Where better to start your trip than a nice pint, down by the river... Well this place isn't it!

Considering the location, The Midland has so much potential. Instead, you have a tired looking pub, with a very grumpy women serving behind the bar. Using the absolute minimum amount of words to take the order and your money, with a look that says "I dont want to be here". Welcome to Matlock Bath people!

We visited in August 2020, with Covid measures in place. The pub does have a one way system, sanitiser station and a track and trace QR code as you enter. However, it seems a token measure as most people seemed to ignore it (several pushed passed us to get their order in) and of course the delight that is behind the bar didnt have any interest in making sure safety was a priority.

Anyone interested in the Eat Out to Help Out offer be warned, The Midland have not signed up to it. In fact the "cheery" staff member was telling people to go to the Fishponds pub (a 5 minute walk away), or one of the fish and chip shops.

On the plus side, there are a good number of outside tables, positioned on the edge of the River Derwent.

We stayed for one drink and went to find somewhere slightly more welcoming. Overall, disappointing, and considering how hard the hospitality industry has been hit during the pandemic its a real missed opportunity to claw back...

This is the worst establishment I have ever set foot in, we Initially thought this looks nice we will go in for drink,We was sadly mistaken, we walked in and a friend of ours that was with us and his child that’s in our bubble was challenged in and aggressive manor regarding masks, our Freind politely said he was exempt due to medical condition, The Lanlord Rudely said he makes his own laws and you wear a mask or you don’t get served. As you can imagine we was disgusted with this but didn’t want to make a scene so we walked outside and sat down,I went back inside and ordered drinks with a lady who you could tell did not want to be there, she was very short and not nice how she spoke. Once again this made us more less likely to use this pub again, when outside me and my wife was taking about this and 3 tables around us voiced there opinion on similar situation and how rude the staff was and the Lanlord especially, When we finished our 1 drink I went inside to ask to speak to the Lanlord and when he came over he came very close and was very intimidating and very argumentative, it’s a good job I wasn’t phased by this has it could of come across like he was a bully. Please be aware with this pub as this man and his team are not fit to be in the pub industry in Any way shape or form, if o could give less than 1 star I would. I would avoid...

The Midland Pub, Matlock Dropped into The Midland in Matlock and was seriously impressed. The food was top tier — fresh, flavourful, and generously portioned. I had the chilli con carne and fish and chips, and both dishes were spot on. • Chilli con carne was rich, hearty, and packed with flavour — proper comfort food. • Fish and chips came out perfectly crisp with tender, flaky fish inside. Generous portions on both. The beer garden is an absolute gem — right by the water, peaceful, and a great spot to relax with a pint. Paired with the quality food, it made for a brilliant experience all round. Service was friendly, and the atmosphere had that cosy, welcoming feel you’d want from a local pub. Rating: 5/5 — will definitely be back

So came in for a quick drink before we headed home, never guess how much we was charged for 1 pint and small glass of coke £9.90 And the Deco is extremely out dated if you going to charge premium price at least update the intero I seen better council estate working men clubs than this pub, O and the service from the middle aged bar tender with short died blonde hair with glasses on was extremely rude Best advice is to stay away !

We just stopped by on a sunny afternoon for a quick refreshment. It was good to see they were taking necessary precautions in wake of the pandemic. I'd heard the staff were a bit off with people but they seemed ok with us. Not amazingly friendly but still decent. The place itself seemed alright and it has a nice little beer garden outback by the river. Not bad for a brief stop but I couldn't tell you anymore than that.
