Discovered this place when we had a walk into Matlock Bath in the summer. It's fantastic to know they serve gluten free chips at any time, rather than it being on a specific day. The staff were pleasant and sorted out two different requests (one gluten free, one Muggle), with plenty of salt and vinegar available. My wife had gravy on hers, but I'm unsure if a GF option is offered. Next time we go I'll find out and ask about sausages and other things that may have changed. They have a sit-down café / restaurant if you fancy a more relaxed meal with proper plates and cutlery, with an outside seating area. We had ours to take out and it was enjoyable to walk along the side of the river with a tray of chips - just like the old days!

"Summer driving to Matlock Bath is a joy!" My middle son exclaimed."It's so beautiful!" You should really enjoy this drive. The verdant bucolic forest is a delight to view as you drive up to Matlock. And you can point out the different types of trees to your children. Common Ash, Oak, Poplar, European Beech, Sycamore Maple, Crack Willow, etc. are just a few species you can point out. Riverside Fish Bar is amongst the most "popular" in Matlock Bath, as you can see. The staff are super friendly and will go out of their way to help you. Try the Haddock, Chips and Mushy peas. Delicious!

Visited before watching the Matlock illuminations, considering the fish bar was full there wasn’t a queue and we were served very efficiently. One lady took the order and another served the food. As soon as we had paid for the food, it was there waiting for us. The food was piping hot and fish batter was lovely and crisp. The chips were very well cooked too and not at all greasy. We put our own salt and vinegar on. One thing I could say was the large chips was only enough for 2 people. Maybe it could be a larger portion ? All in all a very pleasant visit.

Such an awesome place. I came here today with the family. As a Muslim, we can only eat halal food. So I tried ALL the other fish & chip shops and enquired..but they all cooked the fish and chips WITH the other meat products, and in the same fryer. But this place advised that they have a separate fryer area which cooks solely NON GLUTEN foods, and therefore they would do it separately (as long as I was having gluten free food). And so the gent and lady were kind enough to fry us a fish from scratch and fry the chips from scratch. This was so unbelievably nice...all for our halal requirements. And the fish and chips were fantastic. Well cooked, well prepared...just fabulous!

In addition to this, the staff were so friendly. My wife wore a head scarf..and although we did get many strange looks and a few comments through the day in the heights of Abraham ...this restaurant and it’s staff were just incredible. Very friendly and professional to us.

I would advise ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE (including all other Muslim brothers and sisters) to come and visit this place, and try some world class fish and chips in a fantastic environment. Thanks guys...we pray that you have immense success in this business in the future. I would have given them 10 stars if this...

If I could give no stars I would. We visited here on Friday after spending the day at Gulliver's Kingdom with the kids. Avoid at all costs. We paid nearly £45 for 2x fish and chips, 1 pot of curry sauce and 2x chips and battered sausage. The food is quite possibly the worst I’ve ever eaten and to top it off my husband and I were extremely ill all through the night and all day Saturday. We’ve put it down to the fish as it was only us two that had eaten it. Kids were thankfully ok.

It’s very sad as it’s in such a good spot next to the river and I’ve always gone here even as a child so it’s extremely disappointing that the standards have dropped so bad. The place looks grubby and the staff aren’t very friendly at all.

I will mention a visit we did last summer with family. We called in for fish and chips after a nice long walk and the kids needed the loo, we took them in and there was no had soap in the toilet!! When I asked at the counter they just rudely responded with “there isn’t any”. How a food establishment can have no hand soap in the toilets is beyond me. We just thought it might have been a one off and gave them the benefit of the doubt.

Avoid this place. There are plenty of other fish and chip shops and...

If I could give it 0 stars I genuinely would.

Me and our fella been getting our chippy here many years now. Recently, the quality of food has been appalling . We have still given it the benefit of the doubt, but what’s really pushed me to write this is the amount of times I have requested my curry sauce be put separate from my chips in a tub, they always say that’s alright and tell us to sit down so why is it every time we get our food it is drowned in curry sauce - the opposite of what I asked. I would understand if they didn’t have any tubs but they do and it genuinely feels like they just can’t be bothered to listen to their requests.

The atmosphere inside is very unwelcoming and they often scurry you outside to wait. I have also noticed they constantly have new staff and I understand why as I have seen first hand they turn their nose up at the younger staff. The state of this resturant is also appalling - definitely needs a good clean and redecorating.

If it were down to me they’d be...
