We visited for some lunch.
Food - We had sausage rolls, Paninis and drinks. Food was good, but the sausage rolls were excellent! Hot drinks were ok, cappuccino was a little luke warm rather than hot.
Dessert - carrot cake (good), bakewell classic tart with ice cream (the best ever!).
Service - this is where things matter most.... the workers bringing food to the tables were so polite and friendly including service with a smile which is important. This is not Costa or Starbucks where service is basic, you'd expect a small business to excell in this department. The BIGGEST let down was the lady at the till point with pink hair....
For some reason she was really unwelcoming and did not crack a smile even though we were polite and normal. We were really looking forward to coming here after hearing great things but unfortunately she seemed really off and just ruined the experience. Even when we were about to leave we saw her and said the food was excellent and thank you etc, but she did not even acknowledge this or have any eye contact whatsoever...it's like she wanted to get rid of us. Was quite rude to be honest, it doesnt hurt to at least acknowledge...
Read moreThis place has quite nice atmosphere inside - the space is divided into a coffee shop area and a gift shop so it can get quite busy. We visited on Sunday when Christmas market was on, so it was extremely busy and people were waiting for a table. I presume this is somehow typical when Christmas markets are on, because people seemed to be waiting outside most of the cafés. That's just something to keep in mind if you are visiting during Christmas period.
The service was a little slower, but it was understandable for how busy it seemed. They were also experiencing an issue with the clogged toilet, but the owner (I assume) was very helpful and tried to sort this out immediately after being notified.
The only real issue I have is pricing. I saw other reviewers commenting on the same thing too. Both americano and tea were £3 each, which is way pricier than what you usually get even in the high street coffe shops. The coffee was good quality, but getting Twinings tea was quite disappointing especially when there are some amazing loose leaf tea brands local to Yorkshire.
Note that I didn't have a bad experience, it was just nothing special and on the...
Read moreI visited this lovely, friendly and inviting coffee shop recently with my elderly mum. Our table was very easy to access with the wheelchair, and the atmosphere was so convivial and pleasant. From ordering, to eating, to chatting with the owner and staff, the whole experience was lovely, and the cafe was very clean. The food was tasty - the cappuccino, in particular, was delicious ( I'd recommend one of these with a slice of their Bakewell tart)! The staff were so friendly and helpful and service was with a smile - a credit to the cafe. In my experience, people are too quick to complain, and slow to compliment in this day and age, which is a shame. I believe strongly in credit where credit is due. The owner ( I presume the gentleman was the owner!) makes an effort to welcome and chat to his customers, which is lovely, as this is quite a rarity nowadays in some establishments, I have found. Thank you. We shall definitely pop...
