Seasons greetings are clearly not part of the staff training curiculum at the awful establishment. Following a lovely walk around the shops picking up some last minute bargains in Bakewell we stopped briefly whilst my wife popped into the children’s boutique next door to The Lavender Grinch Rooms. I stood there with my two sons, my youngest was in his pushchair and my 11 year old decided to briefly rest his feet by sitting on the chairs outside the Tea Rooms, within seconds a young staff member burst out of the shop and quizzed me if I was waiting to order, I explained my son was resting for a second whilst my wife shopped next door, rather than letting him sit there for a minute or two she basically told him to get off the seat as they were for patrons only (this I get) but rather than either A, let him sit there for a few minutes or B give us a gentle heads up, she went straight into pit bull mode, the crazy thing was a chap who was just about to go into the Tea Rooms heard her bolshy attitude and told me ‘I,ll give them a miss I think’ and walked away in the direction of Costa (wise move). Just after this an old lady came out (maybe the owner / manager), still shocked at the lack of compassion from the younger staff member I thought I’d mention it to the older lady (maybe she would put my faith in customer service back on track), I explained to her what had happened and that he just wanted to sit for a few minutes and that they appeared to be very quiet, she looked straight through me, collapsed the table umbrella, tipped all the chairs up so no one else could sit there the zero’d in in on my saying ‘Who cares it’s New Year’s Eve’........ Unfortunately you can’t leave zero stars. Please avoid if you expect good...

I visited Lavender Tea Rooms when visiting the picturesque village of Bakewell with my family, there were 5 of us in total, however there were only one round table with 3 chairs available, we were not planning not to stay for too long anyway. After we were sat down by the waiting staff, we asked if it was possible to grab two more chairs, as we were all tired from walking around, and were travelling with my mother and my 4 year old daughter. To my surprise, then waiting staff returned asking to leave, and when we questioned why, I could sense some frustration from the young man who was serving us, when we asked to speak to the manager, he turned away from us and made some remarks with profanities. I personally would never would have expected to be sworn at in public by a waiting staff, and definitely not in an tea room such as this. What made it worst is that in the whole incident and his treatment and attitude caused my daughter to cry, and instead of apologising, the young man got even more frustrated and even aggressive. I believe this is totally unacceptable behaviour and never would wish the same experience upon anyone else, and left a bitter taste on the...
