1st time visit. Met by employee on the street and ushered into the restaurant. Not particularly keen on this method as felt pressured. (We had walked past twice previously and he had tried to get us to eat there each time.) Once sat, drink order was taken (alittle disappointed with selection, especially non alcoholic drinks) Food order was taken in timely manner by friendly and approachable waitress. After seeing another tables order, we decided that a children's portion was suitable for our youngest (11) Food was served quickly and most was hot (mushy peas were only warm) My oldest son ate the homemade chicken pie with chips and peas. He stated that this was fantastic! My youngest's fish dinner looked lovely, just huge! We ate the combo of fish with scampi. The fish was really nice. A good thick piece of cod, clearly cooked fresh. The scampi however, was tasteless and greasey. At times, my wife and I questioned if there was any scampi within the batter. The chips were really nice, just not enough for me in comparison to a kids portion. My wife and children had curry sauce and found this to be watery and not of the normal consistency expected from a chippy. I felt that the prices did not reflect what was served. £65 for a family of 5, when I have fed my family for half that before within Matlock bath. Overall, we left disappointed and probably won't return as we feel there is better places to eat in...

Ill start by saying I really really wanted to like this place and I'm disappointed I didn't. I'd heard good things about it online and went with the expectation that it would be good albeit one of the more expensive places in the area.

The staff and service was great, really friendly, unfortunately that's about where the good ends.

Ordered a standard fish and chips £11.99 and a small fish and chips £6.50 when it arrived other than the standard fish being about 30% bigger there wasn't a bit of difference for nearly DOUBLE the price.

The chips were mediocre, cold and could have done with frying longer and you don't get many at all for the price.

The fish itself was a nice piece of fish fairly thick and chunky. Unfortunately it came very greasy and cold which I can't understand as it was cooked fresh and they were busy to be fair so I'm unsure why the whole meal arrived cold. The batter was very flat and dense and not crispy at all.

Think I was charged 3.50+ ish for a latte which was a powdered instant one you get in a sachet which is an absolute daylight robbery. I'd either take latte etc off the menu or do it properly. I did wonder why there were no drinks on the menu with prices or separate drinks menu; make of that what you will.

Given an extra star for the staff otherwise would have...

Invited inside on a very wet December day by their guy outside on the street. The waitress was over very quickly to ask for our drinks (2 pots of tea a decaf and normal £2.30 each it's on the menu) Our daughters returned from their toilet visit and ordered 2 soft drinks along with our food which was quickly delivered to the table. Daughter Number One was amused by the two thick slices of bread that accompanied her "chip sandwich" not fresh cut as advertised on the menu more like Warburton Toastie, Daughter Number Two was pleasantly surprised with her chips and fish cake (more like a rissole and definitely not a "Sheffield Fishcake") My wife and I had very nice mini fish and chips. I went to the counter area to request the bill and was actually asked what we had had. While my order was being rang into the till I noticed that the chips and fish cake was rang in as large instead of a mini, this was quickly rectified but this resulted in the 2 soft drinks not being rang into the till but added manually. Having paid the bill I asked how much the soft drinks are as I thought £3.00 each was an error but no that is correct it's just conveniently not on the menu. Beware and...

Some staff are nice, owners son is as rude as can be. Their food is hit and miss but don't dare send anything back. They say bikers welcome but we truly are not. I had two baked potatoes that looked like the dog had them for lunch. We sent them back and they were not happy. No apology nor even acceptance it was inferior. Next time I went just for coffee all seemed OK, it was nice coffee and the actual owner was lovely, however the next time I was rudely challenged by the front man who's job it seems it to drag people in then be rude to them. I believe this is the owners son, who was most offended that I had previously sent the food back. On that day it was him or another family member cooking. Today's aggression displayed to myself was a month later. I asked if sending food back was a problem, he was adamant it was. If I had been alone I may have shrugged this off but it was a rare occasion of getting together with my daughter, who is at uni. We all felt humiliated by this vile behaviour displayed towards us. In summary do not go here.

On Sunday, something strange happened. I looked out in the morning and so the sun in the sky, no rain no cloud but sun! to make the most of this we decided to visit Matlock Bath with no real agenda. We're so glad we did it was a fantastic way to spend half a day. We went for a long walk along the River with some great heights and views. We then visited the arcades, and it must have been our lucky day because we won in nearly every 2p machine. The plan was then to leave and have a healthy (it's January!) lunch at home however we were drawn in by the wonderful smells and menu at Charles, a roadside restaurant. three plates of chips and mushy peas later, we left Matlock Bath with big smiles on our faces. Go and visit now!
