German Doner Kebab (GDK) — Restaurant in Dover

AVOID IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES OR BASIC STANDARDS OF HYGIENE

I dined at the Dover branch with a group of people on 14th March. If I could give 0 stars I would.

The reason for such a late review is because I was asked not to put a review up until this matter had been sorted. I am still waiting for a call back over one month later, despite reminding the manager recently.

It was a particularly busy time and lots of people were standing around waiting for their food. I was the first to order in our group and went to find a table. I found one but it was covered in crumbs and needed a wipe down. I politely asked if the table could be wiped and was told by the young staff member ,that he would be back in a minute. By the time the 4th person in the group ordered the table was still dirty. I asked again for the table to be wiped and the staff member snapped at me that ' I am only one person'.

The next issue. NONE of our orders were correct. My order came out second, but only half of it. I ordered the wrap meal with donner spring rolls. The wrap came out cold with no chips or dips. When I asked, it was because my chips were being made fresh. After repeated attempts to ask for some dips, and where the chips were, he couldn't give me an answer. In total he checked my receipt 4 times whenever i chased my items. The spring rolls came out half an hour after my wrap and chips ten minutes after that....and they were stone cold - so much for being fresh.

Second person's food. She ordered extra toppings inside her wrap. When she asked whether they were inside the wrap, the staff once again quite rudely told her to check herself. The toppings had not been included and then she was given a pot of them to include and assemble herself. To make things worse, she too had ordered the spring rolls, and when she asked if they were the chicken ones, the staff member picked them up with his hand, had a sniff and then put them back on her plate.

This person asked to speak to a manager, and was told there wasn't one and refunds weren't an option here.

Third persons order was extremely late. Then when it arrived had tomatoes on it. She made a complaint and said that she was allergic, and They asked her if they could scrape it off and give it back to her. This is almost one hour after ordering. Utterly disgusted and now concerned about how they prepare their foods for people with allergies.

Finally, the fourth person's food.... roughly and hour and 15 minutes later and repeated chase ups.... she has walked to the kitchen area and asked about her food. They had no knowledge of the order and asked to see her receipt as proof of ordering. She stood and watch them make it and within minutes she had her order.

Alongside all of this,all our orders came in bits and pieces. Delivered by hand not even on a tray. Their hygiene practice needs work.

I have emailed the company and was spoken to by the regional manager who assured me that the local manager would call this was on th 15th March. He asked me not to leave a review until this was resolved but despite reminders I have had nothing.

If yoy have allergies or are looking for a quick meal. This is NOT the place to go. They will take your money at the till when you order and then the service goes out the window. There is no service, I'm not even sure they have a real hygiene certificate as their practices just weren't up to standard.

Since the first day they opened, I am in love. Best place to eat fast food in Dover period. Nothing comes close to it. Great service, great food and a comfortable place to eat. The staff are always very welcoming and helpful. Apart 2 mistakes which they corrected straight away with my orders they are kings. I simply can't fault them. I introduced a few of my friends to it and they all loved it. Thanks guys, keep up the good work.

Went there on the 15 July 2024 It was a totally different experience. There was 2 people eating, me and another customer queuing. It took nearly 30 minutes for them to serve me the food. Simply ridiculous when there was 2 guys in the kitchen. I had to repeat myself 3 times for the guy at the till to understand what I wanted. He clearly couldn't be bothered listening to what I wanted. The choice of drink was super limited compared to all the other times I went there. The food wasn't great and it wasn't very hot. Very disappointed I must say. They used to come and ask us if I was happy with the food now they don't even bother. The tables were dirty, I mean i can understand if it's a busy day not always find the time to do the basic cleaning but when there is hardly any customer there, you...

Have frequented this franchised outlet of GDK now a few times a week since they opened. Have only ever had one "bad" meal - it wasn't bad, just a little smaller than usual. However - here is the best bit, upon notifying them of my concern, immediately this was resolved with an apology from the management. The quality of the food, the politeness of the staff, cleanliness and taste of food is absolutely top notch in my opinion.

Pricing is very reasonable for something that isnt "just a kebab" - you can go for a large "Coco" kebab and I believe it costs around £9.90 - you pay that for large kebab elsewhere, yes you will get more elsewhere, but you wont get the crafted tasty coloured bread, you wont get the service (just take out only elsewhere), you wont get the same quality product.

Comparing portion sizes of this place vs a run of the mill takeaway is just comparing Apples to Oranges in my opinion

Will I go back? ABSOLUTELY !
