Sides Merry Hill — Restaurant in Dudley

I visited this restaurant when it first opened and the food was good, the wait time was very long but expected with it recently opening. I visited again Friday 10th May 2024 and it was SHOCKING. I expected the place to have found its feet now but it certainly hadn’t when I visited. The place was dirty, not to the point where it felt like rats might be hiding, but some detail cleaning needs doing considering it’s not been open long. We ordered only 2 basic meals using the kiosk and then took our seats. After 25 minutes we still had not received our order so I went to the counter (where only 1 girl was working) to ask where my order was. The girl seemed very stressed although it wasn’t busy at all (4 people inside the restaurant). She said sorry and would get the order ready. 10 more minutes past taking my wait time to 35 minutes. At this point I returned to the counter to ask for a refund. The manager was apparently in the office! I waited a couple of minutes before the manager decided she couldn’t be bothered to come out so a young lad processed the refund for me. When he had worked out how to do it the manager then came strolling out without a care in the world and her phone in her hand, didn’t acknowledge me, no apology, not a word. I don’t think a manager should be hiding in the office when the service has fell apart. To be fair to the girl on the front she was trying her best and was polite to me, there was just no food coming out and the food coming out seemed to be going straight into delivery orders. About 4 drivers got their order whilst people inside the restaurant was just sat around waiting. The food we had on our first (and last) visit was actually ok which makes it a shame the cleanliness and service ruins it. I think you should have a re-think on who is running this place and then maybe it wouldn’t be so quiet in there. For the price of the food I’d expect much better! Went today for lunch, we placed our order using the kiosk at 14:43, we then waited 35 minutes for our food. Whilst waiting there seemed to only be three staff working- 2 in the kitchen and 1 quite rude front of house. The guy working front of house was moving at snails pace to get everyone’s food out and prioritising delivery orders. We saw what we thought was our food sitting under the hot light for 20 minutes!! We heard the staff ask for the milkshake with the order, this took another 5 minutes to be made and was sat on the pass for 10 minutes. When our order number was eventually called, we were given our food on a tray despite selecting takeout. All that was mentioned was a very insincere “sorry about your wait”. From the food being sat there for so long it was slightly warm and the milkshake completely melted. The guy working front of house wasn’t very polite when talking to other customers, people waiting to order who wanted to pay cash so couldn’t use the kiosks, were told in quite a rude tone “just wait a minute, I’m busy”. After what felt like 3 years trying to order on the self service screen (there were 4 screens and 3 of them had frozen) we finally managed to get the order through and were waiting for our food. The food took a while to arrive but we accepted this as it was a Saturday so of course busier than usual. We were initially very impressed when we saw the food it all looked lovely but the taste was something else! Honestly disgusting! We had 2 burgers both pretty pathetic, 2 tiny little tenders on what can only be described as overly sweet bread which over powered the whole taste. The waffle fries were average, but left a horrible sicky burning taste in the back of your throat then for the rest of the day. We also had wings and tenders. I would say that the tenders were the best of the lot but again only average and I wouldn't have them again. The wings on the other hand were absolutely disgusting! My partner and I both literally spat them out! The taste was horrible, I can't even explain what it tasted like but it wasn't good! We ended up leaving the majority and left with strange feelings in our throats and stomachs for the rest of the day! May as well have just thrown just under £50 in the bin!
