Stayed and ate here with a friend for an Alhambra Theatre night. Hotel is a 5 minute walk away. Location is excellent. Arrived on a Saturday afternoon - check in process is appalling. Don't bother going to the hotel reception door. And although they tell you its manned from 11am, we never saw a soul, not even checking out. You have to queue at the bar in Wetherspoons to check in. Good luck getting served if you're not a 21 year old male. Attitude of bar staff very poor. Room however was fantastic. Spotlessly clean and came with everything needed. One star taken off for the noise from adjacent rooms in the morning. The rugby was playing on multiple tvs and was relatively busy however the slot machines were poitioned badly and despite the young waitress saying "excuse me", very clearly, numerous times the people playing the machines still managed to knock into her while she had a tray of drinks. We had dinner in the evening. Tables everywhere cluttered and uncleaned. Again service at the bar awful. Got served after 15 minutes and querying why I hadn't been served to be told I was standing at the wrong, one of many, till points. I advise you use the app. I couldn't get a signal but my friend did. Dinner surprisingly good. We had the "gourmet" sirloin steak, which was cooked to perfection. There was a raw, yes uncooked, mushroom on my plate. In the morning I had vegan breakfast and fruit. This was delicious and great value for money and mushroom was cooked. Tea etc is refillable. Service in the morning outshone the evening. Staff were friendlier, more efficient and faster. Tables were cleared and cleaned promptly. Despite 2 stars, we would stay again as it was cheap and we would know what to expect next time.

Given the age of the building they did the best they could to provide comfortable rooms, which we only used for sleeping anyway. Spacious bathroom with all the fixings. You can’t beat living just above a Wetherspoon, be it breakfast before the crowds get in, late night bite or a drink, you don’t have far to go. The location is amazing, High Street, city center on a pedestrians-only section. Parking is just a block away in the safe and pre-paid lot of the Kingsgate Shopping Centre. Close to the Carnegie birth place and museum, Carnegie library and museum and the Abbey with Robert the Bruce buried under the pulpit. Check-in to the hotel is best done through the bar staff, after you got your key you can come and go different ways as you please. Walking distance on New Row is the Dhoom Indian restaurant, which is a must to experience. We had the taster menu, no rush, enjoy 10 lovely portions of Punjab inspired dishes with good wine and beer selection, make a night out of it - we loved it and did not leave hungry!!!

Arrived for a show on Sat 19th Aug at 2pm....we were with family and ladies of a certain age in the trade so we know how to behave. |Firstly check in could be better , on a Sat afternoon we stood at the end of the bar whilst the barman kept serving bar customers rather than check us in but we waited patiently until he called someone to relieve him to look after us. |Next, after our first drink of Bombay Gin and Tonic we were informed on the next they had run out of Bombay, no problem I'll have a Tanquerray....nope that s run out too so as we do when the basic Gordons arrived being in the trade we exchanged jovial pleasantries (or so we thought ) with the server, telling him the manager needs to sort their ordering out and offered to go to Tesco....in hindsight maybe that was an error , humorous to us as it was....|Thought no more of it had one or two more then decided to go to the room with a purchased bottle of Prosecco....||Room was lovely, huge, clean so no problems there....||Came to lift approx 630 and as we entered the young man we'd spoken to earlier came up but as we do we pleasantly said hello..... into bar waited on the rest of our party then went to order food at the bar......this is where it turned......ordered then asked for the accompanying drink to be told we weren't to be served any alcohol as we had had enough....... trust me, as ex forces and a lady of a certain age and Licence holder I am well aware of limitations and excesses but at no point had we had any altercations, interaction of any sorts with anyone.....|Asked to speak to the manager for an explanation and after 2 deputies finally the Duty Manager arrived...yes you guessed it the young man we had what we thought bantered with arrived....asked him the same question and same repeated answer that he didn't have to give us a reason... ok , agreed and being a Licence holder understand but as I mentioned at least give us a vague reason as we were not slurring being argumentative with anyone, staggering nor anywhere near any reason why we should have been excluded.......adding to the pain that we were paying £140 for the privilege of staying there.....other customers were interjecting as they could see there was no valid reason either....no point in arguing so off we went to show, came back and cheerfully without problem carried on our night in the bar without further issue although somewhat bemused........whilst the bar was full of young underage kids who were more than above an acceptable limit for serving I would add.....|My advice Wetherspoons would be train your managers better....if you think there is an issue, as I would have, a quiet word with someone to explain prior to leaving it to a young bar person is somewhat more condusive to harmonious guests.|Bit confusing to leave drink elsewhere , come back, still perfectly upright I will add and continue to be served in a bar where 3 hrs earlier they deemed you unfit!!!!!!!!|The Happy Police were definitely not in attendance last weekend.||There are ways and means of handling situations and Dunfermline Guild Halls Wetherspoons , Duty Manager of the day that...

Went today and here is my positives and negatives

Positives: Cheap and nice atmosphere. Food okay for price. Young waitress with tattoo on arm is lovely and friendly.

Negatives: Went in and found a seat near the door. Absolutely freezing cold so my family of four moved to another table further in.( I know this isn't Wetherspoon's fault but it's all part of the experience)

When we got to the table the dirty plates and glasses were still there. We waited ages for them to be removed but then the food and drinks arrived and someone came to remove them so the girl had to take the food back to the kitchen. She had to go to another table so came back and proceeded to put food down. Before she could, I advised that all the mess from the previous group was still on the table and it hadn't been wiped. Bearing in mind we are still in a pandemic, I would have thought this would be a priority. So, once again the food went back (I actually had to ask for the table to be wiped) By the time the food came back again, it was cold. What worries me is if the "restaurant" is this dirty then is the kitchen? The chairs were sticky too. Maybe that was with disinfectant, who knows? I'll put it down to everything being different these days but that's Dunfermline and Liverpool both having exactly the same cleanliness issues.

I did recently go to one in the Omni centre in Edinburgh which was more organized.

That said, I couldn't fault the people working there and did see a lady clean another table one it was vacated.

Possibly the staff may not have realised that the crockery and glasses weren't ours. I'm only reviewing on...
