Sometimes it's easy to over emphasise what a great experience you have somewhere but there really aren't the words to do this venue justice.
From the moment we arrived we were greated by a friendly welcome as if we knew the lady serving us, she turned out to be the owner. The first part of our visit was shorter as we only stopped for drinks outside in the sun before embarking on a river Exe cruise with a neighbouring business.
The drinks selection is vast, and very reasonably priced considering we are only a short distance from the beach.
After our cruise we went back to the venue again and this time sat inside and had some food to eat, we were assisted by a very polite young lady called Evie who answered our questions about the menu with great knowledge and helped us choose to eat a truffle chicken and a pesto wrap. Both meals were massive and perfectly cooked and honestly one of the best meals we've eaten in a pub.
I should also mention a young man working during our visit, like the others he was friendly and really helpful.
It's been over 25 years since I'd last been to Exmouth, but if anyone is looking for a perfect venue with great indoor and outdoor seating this is your place. We travelled down by train and it's only a short walk from the train station

Read moreAlright place, with great Customer service and an interesting history. But when it comes to the whole experience, it wasn't all that. The place was very loud which is normal for a pub, but with it being a small area, and crowds of standing people, it wasn't the best first impression, and a very bad dining experience. When we ordered, the waitress was very nice and respectful, and when we received our food, was extremely helpful with any other necessities. We ordered 2 Beer Battered Fish and Chips, the Sunday special Roast Chicken, the Nachos, and three Diet Cokes. Firstly, the Fish, was well made and tasted really fresh, alongside the creamy tartar sauce, but the unseasoned chips and the obviously store bought peas were not the best sides for the £17 meal. My son, who ordered the £14 Roast Chicken, said that everything in it was great, but received an overcooked Yorkshire pudding(somehow). Finally, the Nachos. I had great expectations for this after the impressive beef, guac and salsa on top of the cheesy nachos, but the nachos were literally stuck to the plate, and the ones that weren't, were hard and could break a tooth, removing the whole point of the £9.50 meal. Overall, some good quality in food, but more cons than pros. Not very budget friendly as even the starters have a minimum as £9, can be pricey with...
Read moreWe stopped here at Lunchtime on a Saturday lunchtime in September.
It looked pleasant, the seating looked appealing and staff were welcoming.
The Menu seemed to have plenty of choice and there were specials on a separate menu on the wall however the prices were quite expensive but the Location probably warranted a slightly higher price?
We chose two portions of dirty fries and two salads.
When the food arrived it was presented nicely and the portions were large so it looked good value.
Sadly it all looked better than it tasted.
It was a bit, well, tasteless.
The mince on the dirty fries had no flavour relying on the Jalapeño peppers to give it some bite and the chips on one portion were cold which is a school boy error.
The salads both looked good but had no flavour and were very Bland.
The Chicken Caesar salad in particular had enough bread croutons to feed all the seagulls on the beach, there was plenty of Chicken but it was tasteless and very dry.
At £12.50 this wasn’t a cheap meal and it should have been better.
The other salad had so many Olives it was impossible to eat them all .
In summary the food was a let down given the prices.
I hope this was just a one off and that on another day things would taste better.
Sorry Guys, a bit...
