Friendly fish and chip shop with reasonable value for money prices for sit down meals or takeaway. For takeaway go to the first counter and place your order, for seated meals you go to the second counter just around the corner. Blackboard above the counter shows all the meal options available and a drinks list is to be found at the end of the counter near the till for sit down meals. Just place your order and you will be given a number either your number will be called for you to collect you meal order from the counter or a member of staff will bring it to you. Cutlery can be found at the far end of the counter and ketchup and other sauces are also available, salt, pepper and vinger can be found on the tables. Good size portions and very tasty! Very clean inside and staff clear tables quickly and always wipe down so they are clean for the next customer. Really enjoyed my meal there today and we will be back again soon. Easy access for able bodied and disabled to establishment with a ramp entrance and also a stepped entrance, with clean toilets to be found...
Read moreWe were in Sidmouth yesterday, fancied a fish & chip takeaway and chose to have one here at about 1.30pm. Mum walked in the left hand door, following the arrows and wore a facemask. There was nobody in the queue in front of her, and the guy at the counter, without giving her a chance to speak to place an order, said, very bluntly and rudely to wait outside. She turned around in shock, and walked out. There was no sign at the entrance to say they had stopped selling takeaway food, so we went elsewhere for something to eat. If this is what the staff are like at these premises it is not a good reflection of the company and we will never attempt to eat at this place again, regardless of how good the food reviews are. We live fairly locally and ourselves, family and friends visit the town regularly, and we will let everybody we know about this very unnecessary incident. It's us local people who support businesses like this during the quiet months of winter when there are no tourists around, and The White horse Cafe would do well to...
Read moreToday we visited Sidmouth for a few hours and we're looking for a place to eat. My mum suggested we tried the White horse as the signage outside seemed promising. Big mistake! We ordered 2x fish and chips with mushy peas and a 1/2lb cheeseburger and chips. And 3 hot drinks. Which to my astonishment came to almost £40. Oh and when you order it's not table service, they shout out your receipt number and you have to walk up to the counter and pick it up your self...
My burger was dripping with fat and didn't have any extra bits like tomato or lettuce. It was just 2 greasy deep fried bits of cheap burger in a cheap bap and some horrible plastic cheese. My chips were ok but the state of the burger soon turned my stomach so those chips didn't get much of a chance.
My folks did say they had nice fish and did better with the chips but their mushy peas looked like a dried out heap of dog pooh.
Sidmouth has many food outlets please try somewhere else you'll probably experience better service and get more bang...
