Working in Ware, its nice to eat out away from work canteens etc. We ate at the Punch House prior to its refurbishment several times in the summer sitting out the back in the courtyard . Which was a nice experience. Distancing ourselves from the high street. Food was very nice having sampled the Ham egg and chips which was nice tender ham ,and on a different occasion. A burger with a side order of messy chips with pulled pork, gravy and cheese. Served wrapped in foil. Taste absolutely delicious.
We were disappointed to find the Punch House shut for refurbishment. However happy once it was completed and open again. After what seemed a month or 2.
Upon re entering it was a nice and pleasant fresh decor. But have to say disappointed that the reconfiguration has made the place smaller with tables closer together where it felt like we were all 1 big group rather than 2 people taking a break from work wanting to eat in near silence , as the group of ladies next to us did all the talking.
The menu had been slimed down also removing my previously mentioned ham egg and chips. Before choice was to the point where you pondered over the menu for 10 minutes or so picturing in your minds eye what it would look like and then your taste buds joining in . Saying that the food which remained I'm in no doubt is delicious. just again quietly disappointed that my old favourites weren't on there.
I settled for a chicken burger . Sounds basic but we all know now that most pubs have raised food standards and presentation, to that of some highly acclaimed restaurants. Note I said most pubs . However pleased that the Punch House have taken to challenge the above.
We sat not by choice near to the front door and waited for our food . Glad for the owners that the place was busy having hired out an area for a funeral wake. But that left everybody else clammering for a table .With it now being too cold outside and the refurbishment making the inside much smaller than before.
Foods here!! Not disappointed but sitting next to the WI on the next table and on the thoroughfare of the entry to the place took away the indulgence of what it should have been.
Would i revist... of course. But each time until you walk in you'll be hoping...
Read moreA shame to read some of the other reviews on here because me, the better half and 4 of our friends also came here on New Years Eve and had the most amazing time! 🥳 The food was delicious as always, but then we didn’t wait until after 9pm to try and order it and as for the staff…AMAZING as always despite having to deal some extremely rude and self righteous people on the night (I actually saw one guy literally shouting at the bloke behind the bar! Felt really sorry for him and don’t know how he managed to keep his cool) - anyone with half a brain cell could see that they were short staffed and doing their very best. Chatting with the bar staff later on, it would seem that many of the team had been hit by the current isolation rules so the fact they even opened their doors for NYE despite being so up against it is testament to their dedication and commitment. Thank you all at the Punch House for helping us to see in the new year and we can’t wait to come back for many more great nights...
Read moreNormally have really a good time here but brought 2 friends for lunch, was told 30 minute wait time so ordered through the app. Drinks were super quick but after 45 minutes we asked about food and was told 'it wont be long.' After another 20 we asked again, told the same thing. After an additional 20 we asked again, the bartender told us someone would come to explain to us, but still no timings. Im pregnant and my friend is diabetic so we decided we couldn't wait any longer, the manager was polite and gave us a refund for our food. I do want to say I felt bad for the staff, manager included, who were trying their best but if wed have been given an accurate wait time, we could have assessed for ourselves a bit sooner. Normally I wouldn't complain but being pregnant I cant wait this long between meals and it has actually left me extremely nauseous and we had to rush to Tesco to get my diabetic friend some food ASAP. Hoping it was just an odd...
