Baan Thai Burton — Restaurant in East Staffordshire

Went here for valentine's day meal. Waited over one hour to get main and when I asked where it was I was told I was in a que. All night we could see the take away people going out with food while we where waiting. As we where paying extra to eat on a special night this was a bit off. Even trying to get the tea pot refiled took a very long time and we seemed to be forgotton about. Serveral couple actualy left.

When main did arrive the spiciness of the food was diffrent to the menu. One that was suppose to be spicy was not one that was supposed to be mild can only be described a a vindalu hot. As I do not like very spicy food due to how it affects me this was not a good supprise. My partner was disappoint with the dish she had order as it was not hot. We did swap but by this point damage had been done. We got one small bowl of rice between us and when I asked about this was given another but of steam rice not the coconut rive we had ordered.

What a wonderful hidden gem. Visited Burton last night and we popped out to Baan Thai as it was a 2 minute walk from the hotel. Lovely decor. Very polite staff. Other diners were nice and quiet. Excellent menu. Lots of choices.

Food was superb. Excellent. Flavours were divine. Brilliant portions. Duck in tamarind was off the scale good. Spicy, sour, sweet.... An explosion of flavours. Sweet and sour chicken was for the partner. She hadn't tried Thai before and was worried about the spice. But she wolfed down her food. Testament to the flavours. The Thai green curry was delicious. Creamy coconut with perfect chili heat. Coriander shone through. Delightful on the sticky rice. And a very good Chardonnay, perfectly chilled. Service was perfect. The young man was the perfect host. Visites this place numerous times over the years since they opened. But, in the last few years the food standard has dropped. Most of the food is excessively salty and they all looked mostly the same. It is always well presented and the staff are always friendly. This said, on my last visit August 2020, there was no social distancing, it took over 45 minutes for the starters to arrive. During the visit I was absolutely mortified to see the staff hand brushing tables with the same brush that they had seconds before been sweeping the floor with. At that point, I'd had enough and left, but, lo and behold, I looked back to see them brushing the table that we had just vacated with that same floor hand brush. That was bad enough in itself, but in this world of Covid-19 words escape me. Most certainly won't...
