Desmonds — Restaurant in East Suffolk

Well!! What can I say.... we were simply walking past, we weren't looking for food or drink, we were just browsing... but we were attracted by the quirkiness of the exterior... once inside, there was a small stage where they must do live music on occasions, the tables were all portraits painted by Desmond himself... all the decor was also very personally designed... when presented with the menu (we were only going to have a drink) the menu was simple, yet everything on the menu I wanted (and I'm normally very fussy). I elected for a bacon, brie & cranberry sandwich. I was asked what sort of bread I wanted. Thinking brown or white, I was presented with a bread menu! I selected cheese & onion (there were three other artisan options, plus brown or white). My wife had a scone and when it arrived it looked absolutely incredible.. My sandwich was beautifully filled with juicy bacon, generous amounts of brie and plenty of cranberry sauce. The cheese and onion bread was moist and incredibly tasty too. We absolutely loved Desmonds. So much so, we have changed our plans of our holiday to return as soon as we can... Desmond is a wonderful character with a lovely warmness. No doubt that is why there was a lady on another table who had come to see him especially while visiting from Durham!!. Highly...

Absolute gem of a restaurant. It's quite small (I counted seating for 26) so I would recommend booking. The owner and staff have created a warm, very friendly atmosphere and we were made to feel very welcome. The menu caters extremely well for the majority of diets and everything is freshly cooked. The owner is very helpful and is happy for you to pre-order your choice of meals in advance. This means you don't run the risk of something not being available , which is always a possibility when it's fresh ingredients and cooked to order. We had pizza, tiger prawns and jerk pork burger, all of which were fabulous and the tiramisu dessert is amazing. The level of service was perfect, not rushed, attentive, extremely polite and friendly. Thank you for a lovely evening, Desmond's has just become our first choice restaurant...

We were walking back from the beach, hungry and not sure what to do. The orange, retro exterior appealed, then all these interesting paintings in the window draw us in. Desmond is outside, explains there is a quiz that evening, we ordered some lovely, tasty food, I had a veg curry with rice and peas and my partner a delicious mushroom pasta. Then we get stuck into the hilarious, eccentric quiz. For a Thursday night, it was all really unexpected, the drinks were flowing, everyone was having a great time. We came last in the quiz, but it didn't matter, it was a meal and evening...
